Truly stunning- a complete wine with power and finesse. Bursting with sweet red fruit. Intense minerality. Ample weight without feeling heavy, and a finish that seems to last all day. The delicacy and sweetness of Volnay with the power and structure of Gevrey. Leather, licorice, tobacco, smoke. In a blind tasting this would be hard for me to differentiate from a 1er cru Burgundy. Easily the best Sancerre rouge I’ve had the opportunity to taste. Will age for 15 years or more. Gorgeous wine. — 7 years ago

Been a little bit since I checked in on this. Baby Clos des Chenes. Nose is all stones, minerals, light cherry and seems closed aromatically. Palate is lush and rich with lovely balance, purity and freshness but seems closed. Lovely finesse. Serious dense fruit and structure. Black and red cherries. 2011: lovely and very elegant. Not a profound nose, but alluring with a spring flowers touch, chalky stone and good fresh primary fruit (Apple, peach). Quite nervy on the palate with a distinct vein of minerality. Med- bodied, with fresh acidity and only lightly creamy, with a hint of oak to finish. Real top stuff. — 10 years ago
