Black cherry color, aromas and flavors ... with a bit of earthiness in the background. Enjoyable and a good pairing with coq au vin. — 10 years ago

Horse Heaven Hills Syrah

Deep and dark powerhouse. Well suited to a coq au vin, fireside... Not so much a Seattle summer roof deck... — 10 years ago

La Landonne Côte-Rôtie Syrah

2009 with coq au vin, delicious acidity with the dish, pink peppercorn coming thru, semolina dusty tannins, shy at the moment. Perfumed wood like in a carpenters shop the next day. Subtle rose petal, red licorice twizzlers. Long life ahead. — 10 years ago

Côtes du Forez Gamay 2013

I've had this a few times now. I love gamay. Americans don't quite appreciate gamay because of the acidity. It's made for food, period. This Forez is great. Cranberry, cherry, spicebox and herbs. It's fresh and it gets your palette ready for things like lamb, coq au cin, and wash-rind cheese. — 10 years ago

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2008

Was recommended by the sommelier at Coq D'Argent. Surprisingly light for a Bordeaux down to 2008 being a cold year. — 11 years ago

Fruit-forward, assertively flavored Pinot. Offered some complexity in showing a range of fruit from attack through finish, but would have liked a bit more savory notes. Paired well with escargot and Coq au Vin. — 9 years ago

A chunky, blood warming Burgundy for coq au vin. While it wasn't the last word on complexity it was satisfying and moreish. — 10 years ago

Comte Armand

Clos des Epeneaux Monopole Pommard 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2006

Upon opening the nose gives way more than palate. Underripe strawberry, mulberry, pomegranate with cedar shaving and forest floor. 2-4hrs in decanter and its singing. More red juicy fruit, forest floor with mushroom and minerals (crushed stones) and the lean quality giving way to juicy acid and mouth coating tannins. With Coq Au Vin it was a damn good way to start the weekend. — 10 years ago

I opened this to cook our coq au vin with, but after tasting it, I found it hard to dump in the Dutch oven! This is great passetoutgrain with crackling crunchy fruit! Now I have to find something better to pair with the dish... — 10 years ago
