Wynns Coonawarra Estate

John Riddoch Limited Release Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

Always going to be the highlight of the Wynns tasting and only made in years where the fruit quality and vintage conditions were exceptional. Sue Hodder said everything fell into place in 2015 and she made one of her best ever Riddochs. From less than 1% of Wynns available Cabernet fruit. Latent power on nose and palate with black fruits and balanced oak. At least a 30 year future but so balanced you could happily drink this now but one should wait at least 10 years for its charms to start showing through. A brilliant 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. — 7 years ago

Bouchard Finlayson

Tête de Cuvée Galpin Peak Pinot Noir 2009

Medium to Deep Ruby. Aromas of ripe red and black fruits, coffee with spicy oak. Woody notes. A Shiraz drinkers Pinot! One of the bigger Pinots I have tried and certainly one of the first from South Africa. Latent Power and maybe tasted a little young even at 8 years of age. A joint venture between Burgundian house Bouchard Aine et Fils and Peter Finlayson. Would love to try this in 5 to 10 years. Bought this 1 bottle at a shop in Stellenbosch in SA in 2012 but the wine is from Walker Bay. Enjoyable but unPinot like. One of the 1001 wines. — 9 years ago

@TheSkip 👍 A Life's Work I think! Some of them are hard to get.

Domaine Denis Mortet

Chambertin Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2013

5th wine in the Gevrey bracket and for many the wine of the group. A dusty savoury wine being full bodied yet refined- an aristocrat. All the restrained latent power of Chambertin without any rusticity. A lovely wine. — 9 years ago

I give up liking all these Burgundies you're tasting, 'cause now I'm just jealous!

@Spinning_spins 😁 Vosne Romanee still to come!

Terra Corsa

Vin De Corse Rosé Blend 2015

Subtle pixy candy and red candied fruit on the nose, clean and quaffable mid-palate that shows weight with high water fruit notes, glycerin-edged rich finish with latent and lasting acidity that gives Provençal rosés a run for their money! Low alcohol and lovely. Nielluccio grape is a star in my eyes! — 9 years ago

Grande Réserve Brut Premier Cru Champagne Blend

70% PN, 30% Chardonnay, 2014 disgorgement: lovely golden hues, brioche, biscuit; depth of flavour with latent citrus acidity. — 10 years ago

Les Boudots Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2010

At the nose, blackberry, some leather, earthiness very latent. Maybe a bit still closed. Linear and redrinkable. — 10 years ago

Côte Blonde Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2003

I didn’t pick up any of the Viognier in here, but fantastic anyways, and peaking for sure. Light strawberry, mushroom-earth, leather, perfectly resolved and feathery on the palate, but still with enough latent power and finesse to leave a long impression. Nice! — 7 years ago

Napa Valley Rosato Sangiovese 2013

Great Rose. Sangio with Cran, ML, smooth, light, big color, rich defining fruit. 2013 hint of latent sugar effervesence, but dry. I would pair with pork chops and brown rice. — 8 years ago

Les Amoureuses Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2013

Delectable- this is actually the Musigny, not the Les Amoureuses. First of a bracket of 6 Grand Crus from Morey-Saint Denis and Chambolle Musigny. The other 5 as it turns out I Di not photograph and have in put the notes from Searching on Delectable. When done this way the notes for some reason do not feature in my news feed but they do feature on my Tasting Activity. More perfume than Gevrey Chambertin. Plummy intoxicating aromas with cherry. Not giving as much on the palate which has latent power which will be revealed with decades of cellaring. Very good. — 9 years ago

Freycinet Vineyard

Tasmania Pinot Noir 2009

Mid Ruby in Color. Notes of plum and violet. Luscious and savoury at the same time. A generosity of flavour like Otago NZ in some respects. Still a little latent even at 7 years of age. Freycinet Pinots are made to last 10+ years and this will do that easily. Soft and supple - an excellent Pinot Noir - one of Australia's best. — 9 years ago

@TheSkip Yes unfortunately another instance of small production and strong domestic demand.

Yardstick Wines

Ruth's Reach Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Slightly tart cherry with latent bubblegum. Like a grown-up rock star version of pigtails, bobby socks, and pink bows. Delish for a Napa Cab. I am either in a real good mood lately, or we have been hitting it out of the ballpark with our wine choices. Vino di Vino. — 10 years ago

Leconfield

Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

2nd wine in the Coonawarra Taste off. Rich and vibrant from a good vintage. Latent power but could be drunk young. Fruit driven. — 10 years ago

Domaine Faiveley (Joseph Faiveley)

Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru Pinot Noir

Incredible wine; though potential is evident, it also happens to be latent. Wine is temporarily shutdown; I'd leave it be for 3 years — 11 years ago

Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé

Bonnes Mares Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2014

5th of 6 in this bracket. Subdued nose Latent. Took a few swirls to coax out the nose. Aristocratic once you did. Fine dry Tannins - needs time. de Vogue? My blind tasted notes say. — 8 years ago

Domaine Bruno Clair

Clos de Bèze Chambertin Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2014

Great “depth” on the nose promising things to come M+ body and intensity. Sappy and savoury with minerality more than overt red fruits. Latent power and too young to be drinking this in an ideal world. The first of 9 Grand Crus from Gevrey Chambertin tasted blind. — 8 years ago

Domaine Jean Grivot

Richebourg Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2013

Full but restrained if that makes sense. Concentrated with much to give - latent power. Lots of spice with rich black and blue fruits and polished tannins. Perfume on the palate - unusual in my experience. My equally top pointed wine in this bracket of 6 at 98 points. — 9 years ago

Quilceda Creek

Washington Cabernet Sauvignon 2002

Restrained nose of Plum and Prune. Also notes of wet hot bitumen road. Latent brooding power. Experts say drinking window to 2015 but will go on well beyond that IMO. Amazing fruit strength for a cool climate area like Washington State. Full bodied with decadently rich flavours. One of the best new world Cabernets I have had. Up there with Woodlands Moss Wood Dominus Sassacaia amongst others having not tried many of the Californian Cult classics. A birthday treat. — 10 years ago

Not that Sassacaia is new world. More Cab based with Barriques in an old world country.
