Needs to warm up and get some air time, but when it does it's a wine of notable delicacy and purity. Lively nose of bright lemon-lime, underripe peach, and river stones. Soft and lacey textured, it's quite pure tasting and has a growing chalky minerality in the finish. Very good acidity. Have to remark on the color too, which is a really luminous light green/gold. There is nothing I love more than this wine sometimes. There is a comfortable familiarity to this wine. It bursts from this glass with lavender, minerals, honey, verbena, chamomile and peaches. Very mineral, reductive nose, with coaxing notes of graham cracker, tangerine, sage and fresh cherry, quite floral as well with notes of iris. Quite concentrated and mineral, fresh and classic. In style, elegant and refined with firm, lacey tannin. Plenty of flowers, orange and mineral power in back end. Wow! I'm impressed.. Succulent Bordeaux with X-Factor. If you love Cabernet, get a few bottles of this. French Pomerol Nose = 9/10. Serious structure, red currant, cassis and chocolate layer the palate. Silky, fresh and fruit ever so pure. Lacey structure with slippery fine tannins and 60 second finish. I do enjoy a good Syrah from good ol' Washington. Soft nose for a Syrah, typical notes of gamey grilled meat, herbs, and nutmeg spices. Less oaky than previous vintages which I liked, exhibiting ripe blueberries, cocoa, dried herbs, and a smooth lacey tannin to the finish. Good value in the $20 department, but I think I'd enjoy a Croze-Hermitage for the same money a little more. Goes well with a good burger though! — 7 years ago

The clos des papes was so pristine and pure, no wood, but it was massive in the mouth and very finessed at once, bursting with baskets of cherry raspberry and blackberry in dried thyme and wet rocks, couldn't smell alcohol at all and fruit smelled so pure, palate was mega concentrated with a herb and mineral finish, and waves of fresh fruit, felt the alcohol 15.5%!! A bit in the back end, Tannins were very fine and regal, no astringency at all but plenty of grip. A blockbuster but still carried itself with freshness, balance and purity, a fantastic wine that shouldnt be touched for at least 5 more years and for sure will age well for another 15-20. A relative value at $119, and very burgundian in its purity and lacey texture. 2011 vintage. — 9 years ago
