Blueberry and nectarine Pitts on the nose with underlying earth notes. Upon first sip.... packs a surprising punch. Full bodied without being overbearing or harsh, coats the tongue, smooth and long lasting on the finish. Nicely balanced with acidity and underlying French oak. Just shy of a tawny but still a wine. Defiantly worth checking out! Neal Schaefer you need to try this one! I think you would be pleasantly surprised! — 8 years ago
Nice. At the same price not as nice as the Willi Schaefer from a few nights ago but more (nearly bone) dry. This was with spicy Asian food. Great nose. — 9 years ago
VDP auction bottling. Hard to describe this one as its weightless and in complete balance. There's no hard edges anywhere, but still one of the most hardcore wines that I've ever tasted. The acid level tips the scales and its tart citrusy profile does include some tropical fruits but this this wine is all about its acid drive and nervous minerality. Unique. — 10 years ago
What else belongs with salty apricot glazed ham? Thank heavens! — 11 years ago
What an amazing wine. 2008 vintage which I bought at the Schaefer wine sale two years ago. First bottle was corked and trrribly moldy. Second bottle had a smooth and rich flavor straight from the first sip. Incredible body. Stank s are so mellow and round. An intense and special wine. Good fir Amy meal would be lovely with heavy meats. — 8 years ago

Another creature: a slightly oxidative St. Laurent rose that could be confused for aged Tempier or Lopez. Easily the best 2014 wine at the VDP Wienborse fair, and also one of the most interesting rose wines I have ever encountered. — 10 years ago

Auction! Just goes to show not all #Riesling 2003s suck! Schaefer BA is another testament to the most underrated "great" vintage-HA! #31DaysGermanRiesling #SOR @SummerRiesling — 12 years ago
reviewing Schaffer’s wines is a task of choosing superlatives even when the wine is a low end of his spectrum. — 7 years ago
Crisp angular not that expressive. May need time — 8 years ago
Deep gold. Honeyed apple and snowblower on the nose. Rich mouthfeel of pears and peach, yet the finish was quite short. Still, ripe with elegant acid showcasing the vintage. Drink up. — 9 years ago
First you get the typical Schaefer-Froehlich reduction on the nose but with some time it blows off. A lot of mineral notes, wet stone, sourcrout, fresh sliced white peach, elegant fruit. On the palate the acidity kicks in. Needs another two years to fully come together. Great QPR. — 9 years ago
