Reminiscent of Beaujolais' Gamay, this southern part of Tuscany's Ampeleia is producing some fine red wine! Mine tonight, after 30 minutes swim and spin in the decanter's pool of naked open space and air shows first to the nose wet rocks, slate and sandstone freshly accenting menthol and anise then strictly earthen dirt and minerals and a hint of the berries. First kiss is lightly but intriguingly nasty, wet and dripping red fruit which immediately coats and clings but most interestingly reaches back for the wet rocks overlooking the Med, then re-engages just in time to leave hints of her red and blue berry essence complimenting the blackened octopus in a mash of white beans and spices laced with a hint of Tabasco offered up by Chapel Hill's Il Palio located off Franklin Street (checkout both) Ciao🕶 — 8 years ago
Bought the 2018 Vintage at a grand tasting in Lyon. A beautiful, approachable Chardonnay at a great price. Bought a case, wish I had bought more. — 4 years ago

Had another ‘14 in my cellar. A Napa producer since 1876, established by Jacob Beringer & continues in its 3rd century. In a word, a “BIG” Chardonnay. Pale with stone and tropical fruit aromas and complex spice. Sitting on 80% new French oak, the palate shows ripe apple, apricot, pear & lemon flavors with sweet vanilla spice. Nice buttery mouthfeel, creamy, balanced with lively acidity and toasty oak adding an ending of minerality. Aging well! — 6 years ago
Very nice French Liquer. Mixed it with some white wine. Fantastic. — 7 years ago
My go to. Favorite. — 7 years ago
I got this old bottle at a #German #auction about 15 years ago and, on a whim, decided to serve it recently with a shrimp and avocado salad under a delicate, yet rather simple oil and vinegar dressing... the result was sublime as the nearly fifty-year-old bottle was uncannily fresh... a marvelous foil to the sharper, more savory dressing. Yes, it still had some residual sugar and that was a good thing as was the excellent core of ripe acidity that played a strong roll in the wine's remarkable balance--BRAVO! #1969 #JacobHamm #Winkeler #Jesuitengarten #Riesling #Cabinet #Spätlese — 8 years ago
