Discovered this Pinot a couple years ago as an alternative to a brand my family liked. I agree that it is a Cab drinker's Pinot in that it's got a bit more body & holds up with steak or pizza! — 10 years ago
1999 vintage. Medium garnet. Bright and clear. Medium plus intensity of aromas. Black fruits - blueberry and blackberry, mainly fresh. Hints of wood smoke and cinnamon from the oak. Some game and leather development. Hints of chocolate. On the palate, the wine has medium plus acidity, medium alcohol and medium fine-grained tannins, almost plush. The flavour intensity is on the medium plus side. Fruit flavours of blackberry, black currant and herbal savoury notes. Leather, tobacco and smoke. There's less depth of flavours than on the '07, and the finish is a tad shorter too. Very elegant. Less power than the '07. Very good, but lacks the concentration of some other Sass vintages. NB: after 2 hrs, this wine has changed. It's gained weight, roundness and complexity. It's now ahead of the 07. It's got a sweet long finish. Herbs and a medicinal note to the fore. — 10 years ago
The usually tight tannic punch has faded and melded with the usual Washington velvet, a dark abyss of blackberry, plum, black cherry, it's in a nice place, I honestly wanted the kick in the mouth, but it's more elegant than you would expect. And I'm okay with buying her dinner, cause she delivers! She wore the long dress, thought I'd be looking at a short skirt, but this long dress is taking me home, thanks! She got feisty after she opened up & she delivers impressed! Give it 1hr and she will sing in your ear! — 11 years ago
It's got a lot of everything, and I can appreciate the potential, but this is a bit young for current drinking. The ripeness of fruit is a bit at odds with the green and funk flavors. I get the sense that it'll come together — 9 years ago
Got a tremendous deal on this one. Nice expression of a CA Zin, look elsewhere for subtlety. Not the late harvest style, it's mostly dry despite its ripeness. 16.4% ABV allegedly, didn't taste as much heat though.
Winemaker's comment: Rich bouquet. Big, bright, ripe complex fruity flavors. Mouth filling. Balanced fruit and acid. — 10 years ago
Cherries. Got it at Trader Joe's - it's a 2012. — 10 years ago
It's got game. — 10 years ago
My father has had this bottle open in CT since shortly after he got back from Italy 20 or so years ago. Now it's really smooth, mellow and subtly complex. He doesn't care for this type of brandy. Wife and I will take care of that issue over the coming week. — 11 years ago
Heavy long legs gave away it's heavy sugar and alcohol content. Jammy on the nose with not much complexity. You can tell it's well ripened despite its young age. First swish around the palate hits with heavy acidity and some mild bitterness which suprised me with it having such a fruit forward sent. It gives away with some tasty apricot and plum after its acidity dies a bit. It's a no brainer for the value of $10 but couldn't see myself digging deeper than the mid to high teens for it as it falls a little to fruity being opened after about an hour. — 9 years ago
Finally got over my aversion toward the name "Whispering Angel" and tried this rosé. It's pretty good! Nice pale salmon color, light and crisp fruity taste--delicate and not overpowering. No sticky mouthfeel like some other rosés. Great for a hot summer day. — 10 years ago
Work with my cousin in wine section at our family Grocery store. It's been sitting in our wine room for a while gave it to me to taste if it was turned. Got a beautiful 9 year old bottle that was perfect loved every drop!!! — 10 years ago
Better than I thought. It's got a crisp, champaign/cider dryness. — 10 years ago
Very effervescent in opening. Need to decant....A lot! After a hour or 2 (or 3) the wine shows off it's true legs with a nice start and mellow finish. Nice and drinkable — 10 years ago
Don't know how I feel about this cellared Pinot ... It's got some smoke - like a campfire - to it. — 11 years ago

This is a pretty big wine, but it's got a great freshness and balance. Just a touch of heat on the finish but well integrated oak. Big black cherry daddy. — 9 years ago
