A really nice volcanic white. Very akin to saki in the first sips! — 6 years ago
Valentine wine, hand carried back from the deep medieval Redi cellars in Montepulciano — 6 years ago
Nose a bit funky like black olive, the syrah component to this wine really amped its complexity. A bit more brooding than full tempranillo crianza offerings, this has integrated notes of cedar and ripe red fruits, and that touch of earthy, savory, lightly pungent syrah in support.
Good complement to garlic toast, roasted peppers and grilled salchiccons. — 7 years ago
Shout out to Mexico for making some of the most tasty stuff in the world. This gem comes from 60+ year old vines of mysterious heritage. Vibrant and wild and wonderfully layered. #mexicanwine #naturalwine #bichi — 8 years ago
Last night. Brought back from winery. 2 more bottles. Definitely top 2 or 3 of night and better than 1-2 of brunellos. Outstanding. Great fruit soft integrated tannins long length. Many steps above their always good and consistent basic vino nobile. Keep other bottles for at least 5 years drink over in 3. — 4 years ago
From one of the oldest producers of vino nobile, this amazing 2013 gattavecchi offers everything is right with this wine leaving every defect out of the door. The color is a deep, brilliant dark ruby, charming and foretell of the pleasures this product can offer. Ripe plum and raspberry are dominant, with delicate touch of age in the form of leather and mild spices. A touch of vanilla complete this wonderful palette of flavours. High, vibrant acidity, perfectly matched by powerful green tannins and a deep alcol flow. Everything is perfectly balanced, leaving a clean and memorable palate. If we want to find a mistake, the aftertaste is not as durable as I would have wished. But at this price tag, there are few matches. Wonderful with boar, my perfect match is a traditional Tuscan pasta, pici with ragu. 5 years is its top maturation age, drink it now or regret it forever.
A memorable wine, representative of the expression of terroir around Montepulciano. — 6 years ago
This wine disappeared rather quickly tonight. 93 without batting an eye, maybe 94. This wine pours a translucent red / violet. Nose of mint and herbal cherry. Entry is MUCH more rounded than expected. Sweet cherry cola and acidity building in the mid palate. Finishes with some bing cherry sweetness, some herb, hint of tart, hint of oak tannin but not much. Good weight without being overpowering, and went with rigatoni pasta quite well. I think this one has another 5 years before it starts to head down the hill. Nice bottle. — 7 years ago
Burgundian elegance and complexity in Grenache form. Highly drinkable now with extremely fine tannins and balanced acidity. Such a happy wine. — 8 years ago
Post Elsa checklist- gnarly drinking Sangiovese, nobile-tough. Always better day two. Elsa was a bit anticlimactic down in The Gulf Coast, so this got special attention; very disjointed on day 1, but reconstituted afterward; blackberries. Ready to rumble w Elsa on day 2-3, eh? @Severn Goodwin — 4 years ago
Flowers in the aroma. Then complex blend of vanilla, oak, rosemary, almonds, and cherries, followed by a bright, tight and somewhat silky finish. — 5 years ago
Fruity and smooth. — 6 years ago
This wine was a gift from a friend and it is a nice surprise to me from Argentina. Known by the Malbec this Argentinian Cab blend (60% cab, 25% Malbec and 15% cab franc) has great notes of robusta coffee, tobacco and flower (hydrangea). In you chocolate and dark fruits. It’s higher alcohol level 14,5% ensures its long lasting flavour and a surprisingly round finish. — 7 years ago
Really nice. Smooth with good balance. Great nose with mild finish. Enjoyed at Gordon Ramsey’s Maze restaurant in London. — 7 years ago
Man, I really liked this. Vino Nobile is becoming my jam. This has a nose that screamed "forest," almost like crushed berries in underbrush. Herbs came to the forefront with air - basil and rosemary of all things. Silky texture, nice acid, flavors of red cherries, cedar, mushrooms, and a bit of potpourri in the background. This is a winner. — 8 years ago
Wet clay, currants, grapefruit peel acidity in the finish. A bit young on the nose, chalky after. Not bad for a $9 bottle — 8 years ago

Dark purple. Cherry, licorice, smoke, herbs and learher both on the nose and palate. Youthfully tight with prominent acidity and tannins that build towards end. Leaves very pronounced cherry after taste. Good Vino Nobile in the making — 4 years ago
