LOVE Just Because - Southhold Farm + Cellar 2019 Dolcetto Texas Hill Country
Prominent rosy floral nose. Acid and tannins. Not at all sweet. Cherries, melon, tannins and earthy stems. A little bit of cedar and meaty notes. Flavors unfold gradually on the tongue as you sip and savor. Beautiful translucent light ruby color. Slightly cloudy, but NOT inky or opaque. Tasty. The sharp acidity paired well with a spicy fresh homemade pizza. Not gulpable - makes you drink it slow, enjoy all the flavors.

Fall Creek Vineyards

Salt Lick Vineyards GSM 2016

Texas wines have grown. This is an outstanding blend of Grenache Syrah and Mourvèdre from Salt Lick Vineyard. This is a complex wine with great structure and finesse. Great to see the Lone Star State wines mature and compete in the world stage. Visited the Fall Creek Vineyards. Well worth it can’t get it retail because of the limited production but can get it online. New release of the 2016 vintage. Excellent! — 7 years ago

Sauvignon Blanc 2017

I had the ‘16 vintage of this a few months back in comparison to the Ron Yates SB. I thought the ‘16 was nice, but that the Ron Yates SB was better in every aspect. @Ron Yates told me, in his opinion, the ‘17 Spicewood was better than both the ‘16 Spicewood and the Ron Yates ‘16.

It’s 103 here in TX, and I’m sweating more than this bottle, so it’s prime SB weather.

I’m happy to report that I think I’m aligned with Ron here. In comparison to the Spicewood ‘16, the aromatics on this just jump out of the glass with tons of fruit. Kiwi, lychee, and peach...wow! Great nose. Sharp acidity highlighted by honeyed grapefruit, limestone and chalk. Well done, Ron!

Barrika

Basque Country Cider

Serious cider for serious drinkers... the combination between the apples and noble smoky wood made my day. Fermented to perfection. Dry, tart and smoky with a clean and refreshing finish. It taste like ancient wisdom got thirsty. Can’t get much better than this... IMPERATIVE!!! # To serve, we splash it into the glass, pouring from a very long distance so the cider aerates — if you let it linger too long in the glass, the aeration gets lost and the cider won’t be enjoyable to drink. — 7 years ago

Brut Rosé Champagne Chardonnay Blend

Vivino : 5/5
Note : 5⭐️ for this wonder! Always a pleasure to taste. Its salmon robe sparkling with fine bubbles makes us travel out of time in a soothing, relaxing, comforting space. On the nose, a minerality accompanied by exotic and refreshing fruits, a hint of brioche, peach, star dust and dreams. On the palate, a perfect end, a greedy and sublime gourmandise. YummY

Texas Family Reserve Red Blend 2016

Great Texas wine... no that’s not a misprint. The vineyards on Hwy 290 near Fredericksburg are the the new “Napa Valley” of Texas. Just stay away from Texas cabs. Not so good. This bottle is a Tempranillo.. much better suited for Texas climate. — 7 years ago

Morisoli Vineyard Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Channeled my inner @Paul Treadway Huntington Beacher and popped this right off the truck from Last Bottle. Nice big nose and palate with bright red fruit and what I guess they call Rutherford dust. No way was it worth the $125 winery price (perhaps why they aren't around anymore) but for $50 bucks it's a great deal. — 8 years ago

Saw that one, but I didn't pull the trigger. That $17.00 Champagne they had a few weeks ago was great though. Only 1 bottle left out of the case I bought

Château Lafite Rothschild

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1947

Seventy years have passed since this wine was made. It is hard to imagine how the winemakers of the day could have focused on things like pump-overs when their country had just been through hell and back. But I'm glad they could and did because this wine is delicious. Shadows of red fruit upon layers of black tea, vanilla and pine. This was a very rare treat indeed. — 8 years ago
