Old-school Italian wine that is perfect for pizza. Somewhat thin and alcoholic but typical of wines served in Italian restaurants in Brooklyn when I was small. Flavorful and a perfect match to the marinara sauce of New York Patsy’s Pizzeria or Joe & Pat’s. — a month ago
The 2018 Ghemme Ai Livelli is a dense, potent wine. Black cherry, spice, leather, menthol, game and incense add to an impression of brooding intensity. This rustic, burly Ghemme offers tons of punch and character, but it is marked by slightly elevated alcohol, searing tannins and oxidative overtones. In spite of that, it’s still a very good wine, which just shows the potential here. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, February 2024)

Red fruit and light body with smooth tannins. Very drinkable — 6 months ago
Le Piane’s 2022 Nebbiolo is a rich, heady wine, but it has found a way to maintain freshness and verve. It’s a big wine for sure, yet all the elements are so well balanced. Sweet red/purplish fruit, orange peel, mint and crushed flowers linger on the deep, satisfying finish. $25.00 (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, February 2024) — 7 months ago
Old 2013 and still so young. — 19 days ago
Delicious Italian red. Hint of tobacco flavor. Great with a lamb pasta. — a month ago
Some of us, being Nebbiolo supplicants, love Ghemme for its paradoxical meaty, bloody, yet light qualities. This has it in spades, on the edge of cherry cough syrup but never quite there. The woods, especially on the nose. This wine would benefit from a large glass.
It’s a bit of a sneaky, under the radar winery, hopefully for a bit still.
Lots of cherries, loam, dirt, blood, stoniness. Delicious. A ‘17 feels just about right. — 5 months ago
