Florida Orange Groves

Due South Brewing Co.

Category 3 IPA

Frothy head of bone, with lacy lacing, thick as a garter. Blood orange eternal. Heavy perfumes of musky jasmine, deviled eggs, tarragon and chamomile. A bitter pine-y entry turns evenly sweet, between honey and radicchio flattening to light caramel on dried hempseed. Ever cycling from one side to the next. Amarula, and then cigar stub. Cognac sweet and then candle-grappa and cigarette paper. Feels like you’re chasing your tail, until you forget and are left with a pleasant blend of after dinner courses and cigar coating comfort. — 7 years ago

Big Nose India Pale Ale

Antique-golden amber just under opaque. Home air filter head that dissolved like culinary foam. Rusty can of honey, date bread, candied grapefruit peel, caramelized banana, a tiny suggestion of spray adhesive and very pleasant lemongrass soap, baked pineapple alongside fresh rind of pineapple. Very aromatic. Allspice and nutmeg entry stay in the bitter stratosphere with a wicker basket taste beneath this bitter orange balloon. A bit of palatal rhinoplasty is needed here to navigate over the summit of this big stone nose and its flat grapefruit, orange peel and bitter pecan. Watch the treetops! We’re losing altitude! #swampheadbrewery #swamphead #floridabeer #florida #beer #ipa #ale #abv #ibu — 8 years ago

It was different and a bit of a shock to the palate, but it grew on me and I love it. — 9 years ago

Hrvatska Istra Malvazija 2015

Right on the end of its potential, but drinking lovely and fresh. Medium bodied and zesty - like a Florida orange and grapefruit. Some apples and apricots. — 9 years ago

Jai Alai Aged on White Oak India Pale Ale

Mandarine oranges in white cake, pineapple, allspice, and lemon custard suggestions, lead to a mouthful of creamy, clean-tasting magnesium and mint awash in orange-lime and foamy pineapple with a distinctly cannoli finish. Seems tamer than in past years, but possibly better. — 10 years ago

Saltwater Brewery

Screamin’ Reels IPA

Round two wrestling the creamy grapefruit leviathan. Orange and pomelo nose with golden raisin dried mango and dried pineapple. Creamy, rolling entry turns pithy and sharp like black lime on tin foil. Giant grapefruit note grenades the middle, spiral-sliced into lemon peel, with a touch of candied lemon peel on the tip of its citric tail. — 10 years ago

Cigar City Brewing Collaboration Brew Wayne’s World Blonde Ale

Chunky blonde monkey! This tangy orangutan is riddled with bits of grits! It had a big blonde head and was like an orange freshly peeled with pith, fossilized, and amber singing of grapefruit days and juniper nights; black pepper and cedar chiming in with rosemary and chive. Really slaps your tongue with the Gin-ny Juniper...Secondary notes of grapefruit, orange, lemon seed, coriander and grapefruit pith chatter and whoop as your face is lovingly eaten. The gibberish and screeching grows to a crescendo as the juniper raises its cedar cudgel covered in lichen and wild yeast, cinnamon and clove and just a bay leaf or two, and warmly drums your taut torso while your consciousness clouds like the thick detritus of its last sips. Your limbs pull away with ease as the troop joins the rhythmic frenzy. ‘Why are you hitting yourself?’ their warm starlit eyes suggest with just a little mischief. You know why. — 7 years ago

They throw the kitchen sink in beers these days, so really could have been an Albert Hoffman moment, lol.

Love that the Ritz-Carlton has their own brew. Good wheat body, interesting orange color. You can taste some honey. Not too sweet. — 8 years ago

Hopicana

Wasn't aware I could rate a beer like this so high. But this one is simply good! The orange is balanced by a solid grapefruit core; pith and fruit. Cardamom, white pepper, white oak and cherry blossom. The palate is just shy of creamy, with iron shavings, orange peel, dried pineapple, grape seed oil but plenty of grain and a lovely malt touch. Exceptional IPA! #ipa #duesouthbrewing #Flabeer #ale #hops — 9 years ago

Hunahpu's Imperial Stout

Big vanilla blossom, black mushroom coffee, tea biscuit, caramel, hibiscus, coconut aromas, a super-fine mousse take a trip down chocolate liqueur mountain into the valley of orange coffee cake near vanilla bean crevasse. The citrus really shines beneath the heavier elements, resonating as some exotic mocha persimmon. This glass staining/ spotting monster comes off with finesse. — 10 years ago

Together For Togetherness

Crisp, white, young apricot, Saigon cinnamon nougat, smells foamy, or 'creamy' as Nate notes. Creaminess persists on palatial entry, vanilla, with a clove and apricot undertone. Phenomenal!!!! #sourbeer #sourale #barrelaged #barrelbeer #dankbeer — 9 years ago

Tenuta Caparzo

Riserva Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2010

The name of the estate comes from "Ca' Pazzo", shown on ancient maps. The estate covers an area of 190 hectares, 54 which are vineyards, 4 are olive groves, 87 which are wooded and 45 are to be planted with new vines. Vivid deep Ruby with a berry fruit bouquet and hints of orange zest. On the palate blackberry & cherry flavors, big and powerful, with leather, cacao and pepper spice. Starting to soften nicely, has energetic acidity and muscular tannins, lingering ending with oak finish. Tasting Sample. — 10 years ago

Funky Buddha Brewery

Hop Stimulator Double IPA

Attractive perfume of fresh, ripe pineapples, tangerine, navel orange, lemongrass smoke. Nicely structured crown with persistent lacing of the finest mousse. The caramelized lemon pudding, offset by ruby red grapefruit, papaya, and lime are unexpectedly rich, oozing lemon oil and zesty pomelo. Would welcome an oak-aged edition, but this is fabulous in its brash, pubescent angst! — 10 years ago
