FTP-Z Kirschenmann Ranch Zinfandel 2015

Nimble, funky jaminess - the opposite of what you’d expect of a Cali Zin with almost 14% abv, in the best possible way. Very much in harmony and for my money, Scholium at its accessible best. — 7 years ago

Nice acid acid up front, lemon, a touch of oxidation and - don’t laugh - celery seed. We even ate some celery seeds to confirm. — 8 years ago

Riquewihr Lost Slough Vineyards Gewürztraminer 2015

The 2015, the other half of the night's comparison. Less subtle, more floral. Jasmine, rose petal, honey. All powerful, but all a bit separate and distinct. I think this could lie down for a good while. Will be pleased to try another bottle in a few years. — 8 years ago

Scheria Hudson Vineyards Syrah 2004

This is still going really strong - there is still fruit, primarily black currant, but nicely aged. Yes, there is a bit of alcohol heat, but it wears it well. — 8 years ago

Glos McDowell Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc 2005

My first thought when I pulled this 11 year old Sauv Blanc out of the locker was that I was probably five to seven years too late. Boy, was I wrong. Instead of golden, it was still light to medium straw color. Nose and palate were a bit subtle with lemon and peach, but still good acidity and minerality. A mouth watering glass of wine. I'd look for more, but with about 17 cases produced that may be a tough task. Sadly, the 60+ year old Sauv Blanc vines were only producing about 30-50 gallons of juice per year and have since been pulled. — 9 years ago

Cool note. His bottles are an adventure. Mostly fun adventures but some are a wrong turn in to a real bad neighborhood and your door locks aren't working.

I've really enjoyed the older Syrahs, particularly the 02 and 04 Scheria Hudson, and many of the whites, but haven't had as much luck with the Petit Sirahs and Bdx blends. Still haven't opened my bottle of the scariest one, found here: http://www.scholiumwines.com/2006_SFDC_ris.html

Triple Fist Rebecca's Vineyard Gamay Noir 2014

Bright red, medium extraction, very good clarity. Red fruit and butter notes in nose. Raspberry and cherry skin flavor, medium astringency, some seed bitterness. Tight finish, later, a plum flavor emerges on finish. Wanted to love this more than I did, very good but not sold on it vs. other PNW gamays — 7 years ago

Both really bright and really deep. Black currant, black raspberry followed by a hit of red currant and red raspberry. About an hour of decant until it was really hitting its stride. — 8 years ago
