Rich and quite yeasty, an expressive, grippy chenin from a fantastic producer. Killer value at €11. Yellow fruit, citrus and herbs, rigid acidity. Almost too much on its own, needs some chicken in a cream sauce. A couple of years of softening will do it some good. — 6 years ago
This is for Eric Rodez's Empreinte Noire 2007. A blend of 62/38 Pinot Noir/Chardonnay from best parcels from six vineyards of the best year - 2007. Strawberry, red cherry, honey, honeysuckle, and pronounced toasty characters. Low acidity, medium+ intensity and finish. — 7 years ago
Spot-on, classic, perfectly delineated Saint Joseph. This is the elegant and pretty side of Syrah. Flowing waves of violets and black pepper lift effortlessly out of the glass with bright red fruits. Mid palate is silk and nearly weightless with fine tannins. Low alcohol and neutral oak profile allow for a very pure expression. Hints of game on the finish with a lingering minerality and a fresh, spicy peppercorn character that would be lovely with a variety of meats and herbs. Beautiful wine that I look forward to revisiting over the next 2-3 years. — 8 years ago
Very old vine Grenache Blanc that’s purposefully oxidised (barrels sent topped up, not sure if there’s any flor). This is one for lovers of Vin Jaune but at a fraction of the price. Orange zest, marmalade, lots of dried stone fruit with a lovely saline, umami thing going on. Burnt butter, toasted nuts, this has many layers.
Palate is mouth filling and rich without being ott. In no way fresh, but that ain’t the game here. All those, nutty, dried fruits come through, has this really lovely tiramisu thing going on in the mid palate and finish (which is long). If you like this style, this is bonkers good value! Best with punchy cuisine such as smoked anchovies and southern french fair. — 5 years ago

Oh yes. Love it. — 7 years ago
@Delectable Fleur de lys. Pinot blanc from Pfersigberg. Very champagne like minerality, even more so than the chardonnay (Empreinte) — 7 years ago
Very impressive. 100% handmade, with no electric machinery, from a parcel of very old Syrah vines. Tasteful level of extraction, which results in a rounded wine with balanced and five, yet nonetheless appropriately pronounced tannins. Plums and pepper dominate on the nose. Early harvesting has given this wine the acidity and freshness it needs to cope with the density from the extract and oak. Very good future. — 8 years ago
Rubis brillant

McGah, not Green. Always get banana peel on this with an oily finish. Very good but pricey - likely won’t be picking this up again. — 5 years ago
