Last wine of the night. Nice tension and muscle to this. Multi layered fruit to stave off any excessive tannic kick. — 2 years ago
Waited 2 hours and tasted.tight. 2 more hours opened up but still quite tannic but delicious cherry tobacco. Some tar. Nice. Somewhat complex but felt needed more time but delicious as is. — 4 years ago
Decanted for 1.5 hours first - a little rough at first but opened up - tart cherries, ripe fruit, very round and smooth but tannins have a strong grip. Great with steak! — 5 years ago
Great but needs another 2 years. Spice chocolate. Dark fruits. Dark dark dark. Not hugely fruit though. Almost smoky and very dry. Lovely rose internal aromatics. Wow. Bought from Fass Selections. ... really elegant. Powerful but perfumey. An intense perfume. Still juicy. Great structure. — 6 years ago
Love Elio Altare wines, one of my favorite Piedmont producers. Entry level nebbiolo that drinks way above it’s price point. Think value priced Barbaresco. — 7 months ago
Popped and poured; consumed over a few hours. The 2016 Barbera "Vigna Martina" is deep, dark ruby with an almost impenetrable core. More than ample in the fruit department with all the dark berries. However, it's got enough of the non-fruits: the inorganic earth, purple flowers, some herbs and spices, to leave one in no doubt of its origin. This is certainly one of the more polished versions of Barbera. As for longevity, even at 6 years post vintage, this seemed fairly primary. That being said and based off my experiences with Barbera in this category, I expect the secondary characteristics of leather to begin emerging in the next couple of years. Tasty now and should continue to reward through 2030. — 7 months ago
Ripe red cherries. Earth. Black pepper. Tasty. — 10 months ago
Absolutely spectacular. Essence of Barolo. Cherry and then more cherry. Can’t get enough! — 3 years ago
Lemon meringue and chalk. Complete and satisfying, balancing freshness and savor. Riesling-like energy. Always one of the most sophisticated Chardonnays from anywhere in Italy. #grasso #piemonte #chardonnay #langhe — 6 years ago
From the man himself, Elio Altare, at the cusp of integration with at least a couple of facades and decades to go… Classic Barolo with rose petals, cherry, sharp tannins, and brutally elegant. — 7 months ago
A nice wine though I don’t see this being really interesting. More on the simple side. — 7 months ago
One of the best reds and barolos ever, so good — 9 months ago
Garnet to pink rim, clear and bright. Soft fragrant rose petals, baked cherry vanilla biscuit, closing out with a hint of licorice. Some nuttiness on the palate, with persistent alcohol-warmed cherries midway. Tart and grippy tannic finish. More bottle life awaits. Very very enjoyable, bringing back memories of La Morra last summer. Looking forward to our return to Piedmont!

It has a medicinal quality in the same way his dolcetto has also. Is that a Perno/Disa signature? Transportively good. — 6 months ago
