Was highly skeptical of trying a cheap Texas wine, but was pleasantly surprised. Albariño is one of my favorite white grape varietals, and after learning that Spanish and Portuguese grapes do particularly well in the Texas climate thought I’d give it a shot. Crisp, very refreshing, Happy 4th! — 7 years ago

El Prado BTG 10.13.21 / bought at Psychic Wines Oct. 2021 / grape: Garganega (grown in Soave, Gambellara & Sicily, Italy) / peach, honeydew, tangerine, marjoram, saline — 4 years ago
2018 was the very first vintage for this young French - Colombian couple in Albé (the only mountainous zone in Alsace) and the results are impressive. This is their high end Pinot Gris from the Steinacker vineyard at over 400 meters of altitude on schistuous soils. A blend of 3 different vinification techniques (stainless steel, oak and amphora) that has spent 9 months on the lees. Beautiful nose of white peach and flowers, with an uncommon minerality. Concentrated and juicy with real depth and impressive length, this is the most exciting Pinot Gris I have tasted in a long time from a region where this grape is way too often characterised by excessive residual sugar. Abv. 14,5 %. — 5 years ago
Blend of Tempranillo, Merlot, Cabernet-Sauvignon and Garnacha from high altitude vines in Deifontes, Granada. Smooth — 6 years ago
This is a super hard Rioja to get your hands on (think Rocking Horse 💩) & is Mugas top wine only produced in top vintages so I was quite happy to find this & some 2015 as only around 5,600 bottles 😮 it’s not cheap at £120-£155 but I’ve been chasing for ages! Having had the amazing Prado Enea & Torre Muga in 09 I couldn’t wait 😊 The verdict? It’s a monster 😈 but will benefit 5-10 years more age 😉

👄 Med++ intense loaded dark fruit body of black cherry, blackcurrant & blueberry bathed in cocoa mocha cream w/ a hint of balsamic & liquorice in fine slight dry tannins & mineral
🎯 Long deep dark fruit annihilation w/ a red fruit undertone & big mocha liquorice slight dry mineral kiss — 6 years ago
Juicy, succulent with layers of texture. Black cherry and licorice with smoke, vanillin, and red rose petal. Really unique palate.. smooth and almost airy but with a beautiful cherry fruit texture. Blind, I would have guessed this to be the spring mountain, honestly. 100% single block Oakville vineyard. Nothing like regular oakville and I love it for that. — 8 years ago

Deep ruby, stewed red fruits, white and black pepper, clove, herbaceous, some vegies. Medium + tannins, high alcohol, full bodied, medium acidity. Medium finish. Very nice. On to an older competitor...
Please read my subsequent notes in the Muga Prado Enea for more context.
