Xoriguer

Mahón Gin

Blown away.
Delightful herbal aromatics , and when paired with your favorite tonic, a kafir lime kind of thing cones out and really graces the tongue.
Hard to find outside of España. If you do, grab a few! A cult gin from Mahon in Menorca, Xoriguer is one of the only gins in the world (alongside Plymouth) to have a geographical indication, Gin de Menorca. Gin has been made on Menorca since the 18th century British occupation and Xoriguer commands a devoted following of happy travellers. Unusually, Xoriguer is made in wood-fired pot stills from distilled wine (eau-de-vie) rather than the more usual grain-based distillate, and is rested in oak barrels before bottling.

Richard Hennessy

Richard Hennessy Cognac Brandy

Richard Hennessy. Pre-1875 Eau de Vie from Folles Blanches. Dark amber hue. Bright and starry. Savoury, white pepper, cedar wood, raisin, dried fig, coffee bean. Very complex. On the palate, medium alcohol - integrated and surprisingly soft. Medium minus body. High concentration of flavour. Great length. Special. Not the same character of the 1910, 1965 or the 1947 casks tasted earlier today. But clearly a step up from the Paradis Imperial. — 8 years ago

My previous notes are listed with a click on the photo & a short scroll. I opened this bottle four hours ago. It tasted past it’s prime from the bottle we had several weeks ago. This bottle showed lots of figs, dates, prunes & Eau de Vie Brandy/Cognac. It took four hours open in bottle to get back to my previous notes that I made nearly two months ago. Now, it’s beautiful dark, rich, beautiful Cabernet. If your well stored 87 BV Rutherford tastes over the hill upon opening, I wouldn’t decant it...that would be too much air for this bottling. I would open the bottle for an hour and let it stand. Then, pour into a glass for fifteen to twenty minutes and serve. It recovers magnificently. Deliciously perfect after nearly 30 years in the bottle. For the two of us, our last pour tastes like our previous bottle did after four hours being open in bottle. A splendid recent purchase for less than $50. — 7 years ago

Hennessy

Paradis Imperial Cognac Ugni Blanc

Started off NYE with this gem made from a blend of eau de vies, some dating back to the 1880’s. Only 10 barrels out of 10,000 get selected for this bottling. The quality is obvious. This was just busting at the seams with character. First off, you don’t want to stop smelling it. It’s nearly intoxicating in its sexiness. But the best was yet to come. The way this hits the palate is unlike any other brandy I have ever encountered. The attack was bright and almost white wine-like giving this some lift, it’s just something that I’ve never experienced in a brandy before. From there, it coats the mouth with luxurious candied nuts, vanilla, and baking spices. The finish is mind blowing. Not only is it impossibly long, the delivery is as smooth as any spirit I have ever tasted. No heat what so ever. Way too easy to drink. Worth the price? That’s really hard to say but it has certainly spoiled me. A new benchmark for sure. — 7 years ago
