Lovely soft mousseux, pinot noir very noticeable and a sharp green fruit taste. — 5 years ago
A blend of the difficult wet 2011 vintage (9%) 2012 (63%) and 2013 (28%) the latter 2 vintages very good. Rich and delicious with raspberry on nose and palate from the old vine Hoffmann Dallwitz Vineyard. Lovely cool flavours as in temperature. Medium bodied with supple tannins. — 8 years ago
2008 Sami-Odi 'Hoffmann Dallwitz' MCMXII Syrah
Sourced from 94 vines, planted between 1888 & 1912.
Harvested 14th March 2008.
Yields of 32 hectolitres per hectare.
388 Bottles filled.
Label: ‘Villie-Morgon’ postcard;
Image sourced Paris 2008. A special treat from my friends @chuck_gudas in conspiracy with @fraser_mckinley, a rare treat of an early Sami-Odi offering. We decanted this wine for several hours, and then re-visited 24 hours later, and the wine continued to evolve and improve. Explosive nose of freshly baked cherry pie. More bright red fruits on the palate with a brambley undertone, and soft silky tannins. Wonderful mouth feel with a long, lingering finish. Thank you Chuck and Fraser! — 8 years ago

2016 Sami-Odi ‘Hoffmann Dallwitz’ Syrah. 8 hour decant. Massive nose. Explosive mid-palate. Phenomenally silky texture. Smooth tannins. Stop watch still running on the finish. Just beautiful! And much more open for business than I expected. @Fraser McKinley has it goin on! Smooth and clean. Very pleasant — 10 years ago
Yellow fruits, focused, fruity and juicy at the same time, a Riesling from the schist layer that shines! Low alcohol! 8 grams of residual sugar 10,5 % alcohol, typical summer wine — 10 years ago
Oak, rich, butter, citrus. 2017 @1550, xuaduo, 220623-220722 — 3 years ago
That's a different German trocken riesling but I like the style. There is chalk on the nose along with lemon an pineapple touches. Blind this could have sent me clearly somewhere else as this chalkyness I usually associate with chablis or some sancerre terroirs. The palate is crisp and clean, there is a great acid backbone, some pineapple and lemon notes and the mouthfeel is soft and almost chalky/creamy. The finish is long and fresh and salivating with all the previous elements coming together in a great, vivid feast. Love it! — 3 years ago
Only brief notes. A combination of 4 pretty good vintages - 2012 (11%); 2013 (3%); 2014 (39%) and 2015 (47%). Only 4955 bottles filled. A menthol and sandlewood note with a faint H2S note which blew off. Trademark silky tannins and great length - the product of those old vines in the Hoffmann Dallwitz vineyard. — 5 years ago
Sami-Odi Hoffmann Dallwitz Syrah 2016. This wine is a beast and will benefit greatly from some cellar time, but I can’t seem to keep my hands off. A triple decant along with 6 hours in the decanter at cellar temperature. I should have poured it on a cookie sheet with a couple of industrial fans blowing on it. All that said, the wine is spectacular and reminds me of my favorite Sami-Odi, “Baby Tui.” @Fraser McKinley. The Manfred Krankl Of Australia! What more can I say? — 7 years ago

Rounded, tropical fruits, long finish, creamy. — 9 years ago
The 2009 vintage Mosel is 100% riesling vinified spatlese off dry and 8% ABV. Light , bright and high acidity this wine is well balanced with intense fruit and acidity. Aromatics of tropical fruit, ripe stone fruit, delicate white floral notes carry this wine into and through the senses with elegance and finesse. What a wonderful wine to enjoy with Thai, traditional Cantonese fare, Indian and Asian fusion dishes. Enjoy. — 10 years ago

THE GROWERS’ CUT PAYS HOMAGE EACH YEAR TO A SELECTED TORBRECK GROWER WHOSE PARTICULAR VINEYARD HAS BEST EXEMPLIFIED THE SEASON OR PRODUCED AN EXTRAORDINARY PARCEL OF WINE
This special release, cellar door only wine is produced from one of the traditional Torbreck and Barossa varieties of Grenache, Shiraz or Mataro.
The Hoffmann family are the winners of The Growers’ Cut 2016 award with a unique single vineyard Shiraz, known as the ‘Track Block’, located at the northern end of the western range in the Barossa sub-region of Ebenezer.
Planted on dark red earth over deep clay with a chalky layer of limestone, this is a consistently low yielding block that provides immense depth of flavour.
VINTAGE
Despite a dry winter during 2015, rains in January and March 2016, freshened the older vines and provided long, slow ripening periods in between, which led to a stand-out vintage with high quality fruit.
TASTING
Showing a deep saturated dark red colour and expressing notes of bay leaf, mulberry and cracked pepper this wine will reward those who can hide it away in the cellar. — 3 years ago
