Domaine Garrigue De Taillesang

Domaine du Pegau

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 2012

Had this on Sunday with Roast Pork which was a great match. 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 5% Mourvèdre, 5% other varieties. Plum, raspberry and garrigue. Prior notes indicated notes of Brett. This bottle might have a small influence but a long way off bandaid and down the sink. I think I was influenced by my fellow judges at the Toowoomba Wine Show judges dinner last year - some of whom delight in picking the smallest shred of Brett and declare the wine blacklisted. I would hate to be a Somm serving these chaps. — 4 years ago

Château de Pibarnon (Comte de Saint Victor)

Bandol Mourvedre Blend 2015

Always a fav. First taste of 2015 vintage, nice balance for the year, extraction is deft and carries some finesse to it. As usual, complex, layered, full of goutte de terroir. Layers of cherry from crushed to soaked, slight hint of prune, raspberry confiture, game, fur, roast beef, juniper, forest and cedar, pure garrigue, licorice root, ceylon cinnamon, chaparral, powdered sugar, 5 spice, singed tobacco, graphite, bitter cocoa. Still taut, the tannins need time to relax, but I think they will always have persistence in the wine. Ok with me. — 5 years ago

Cibonne

Cuvée Spéciale Côtes de Provence Tibouren 2017

A bit more alcoholic than we expected, a bit hollow in the cheeks...still, some good fruit and garrigue, would like more structure, perhaps give it a few years. Like a more angular CdP. — 6 years ago

Good cdp, this 2014 is a lighter cuvee, others commented it is burgundian in style and I agree.
Nice raspberry palate, minerality with harmonized garrigue, good tannins. Great complement to food, it's a better wine with food. The garrigue blew off day 2-3 which I miss. A PNP is OK with this wine.

Chapelle St. Theodoric

La Guigasse Châteauneuf-du-Pape Grenache 2013

Pop and pour, notes from 1 hr open. Better than I remember my last btl being, but still not up to the level of that first '11. On the nose: lavender, incense, loads of garrigue, and soft red raspberry..very pure grenache. On the palate: serious acidity, hi-toned red raspberry, more herbal notes, with some salinity, almost olive brine/game, though I believe this is 100% grenache, and attenuated tannin on the finish. This has taken a very savory turn, and the tannin on the finish is slightly attenuated. Yum! — 4 years ago

Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe

Télégramme Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2017

Classic Châteauneuf-du-Pape nose of chocolate over berries with some pepper and garrigue. Bold, juicy, milk chocolate with enough acid to keep things fresh. A little boozy and young tannins. Not the most complex but what it does, it does very well. Yummy. — 4 years ago

Cuvée Réservée Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2018

Gorgeous wine with garrigue, violet, smoky meat, wild strawberries, cloves, lavender, bay leaf and leather. This is so elegant already and will be even better balanced with a bit more time in bottle. Great examples of Southern Rhône grenache. Very enjoyable already. — 4 years ago

Domaine du Gour de Chaulé

Cuvée Tradition Gigondas Grenache 2016

Delectable Wine
9.5

Vivid ruby. An exotically perfumed bouquet evokes ripe red and pit fruits, potpourri and garrigue, and an exotic spice note emerges in the glass. Stains the palate with sweet raspberry, cherry and lavender pastille flavors that steadily put on weight with air. Conveys a suave blend of power and finesse and finishes extremely long and floral, with fine-grained tannins lending discreet grip. (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, February 2020)

Domaine de Marcoux

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 2010

One of my last remaining 2010 CdP’s...from back when I was exploring the region. I’ve since only focused on a few specific producers but Marcoux is one that still has some of my attention...mostly because it’s hard to deny that it’s really good wine. This bottle seemed a touch reductive at first but that blew off with some time and what emerged was a bounty of brambles, sandalwood, garrigue, Twin Bing, some sediment...actually a lot of sediment. The tannins weren’t very obvious at first but after a couple of hours, the tannin monster showed up in full force. For whatever reason, this has happened to me on occasion with top wines from CdP and Gigondas. Not sure what causes that. Anyway, based off this experience, I would have to say that these still have quite a bit of life in them. In the same breath, however, I would exercise caution as I’ve witnessed too many Grenache based wines not age as gracefully. — 6 years ago
