Dinner with Lum brothers and visiting Grafs. Interesting tasty red that fizzed when poured and continued to jump rope and dance around on palate. Fresh, vivacious, full of youthful energy and oh such a perfect suitor marrying the Chinese meats. Others say sour but JG says grows on him. No kidding. Only 11.5 ABV. Yummy. What a great Asian food wine and a red! JL email says 2015 but looks like a 2015 and a 2016 were delivered, according to the labels. Latter was opened tonight. — 6 years ago

Création d'Emilie Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2015

Outstanding #chateauneufdupape from the Boisson family, easily the best I’ve ever had. Heady aroma, layers of earthy richness blended with tart cherry flavors, soft tannins and elegant spice. Unlike other CDPs I’ve had, it’s not too sweet. — 6 years ago

Domaine des Amethystes Chiroubles Gamay 2018

A racy Chiroubles. Charming purple dress, medium concentration and beautiful brilliance. Superb peppery nose, airy between bright floral bouquet (Rose, Iris) and vibrant fruits (cherry and raspberry). Concentration, as expected on solar vintages. The mouth is fresh, tense, with few tannins but beautiful chew. Great drinkability, served refreshed (12/14 degrees) and airy, it's a dangerous drink!

Well, I'm sad I only bought 1 btl, but this was an expensive BB. On the nose: wet stone minerality, lemon and vanilla. Iniitially, I felt like the oak might have been overdone, but likely just the vintage. The nose is just sublime with air. On the palate: fantastic acidity and density. Lovely mouthfeel with more lemon drenched crushed stone, and a superb tangy finish. Stunning, if a bit rich for my palate. — 3 years ago

Allen Brothers Lava Cakes/Soufflé & 1977 Port. Pinch me!

Whenever I have wine this old, I always ask the people I share it with, what were you doing in 1977?

The beautiful thing about really old Port is how it softens all the edges & the elevated ABV. Smooth as silk.

This was a 375ml and farther along than a 750ml. The color was more Tawny than Port at this point. Wine on the leaner side. The fruits were; Thompson raisins, dates, figs, prunes, and some dried blackberries. Caramel, molasses, melted brown sugar, Cognac & Brandy presence, subtle wood shaving, nuts, butterscotch, graham cracker, dark withering flowers with beautiful acidity. The long finish was; rich, polished, well balanced, smooth and persistent for minerals.

If we had gone out for this dinner, it would have been $2500 plus tip & it wouldn’t have been this good which, is why we choose to cook rather than go out.

Cheese Course $25 pp
Salad $18 pp
Allen Brothers 6oz Ribcap $85 pp
Carrots $9 pp
Crispy Potato Wedges $12 pp
Soufflé $20 pp
Launois "Veuve Clemence" Brut Blanc de Blancs N/V Champagne $150
Glass of 2017 Pierre Boisson Bourgogne Blanc $25 pp
2018 Enderle & Moll Pinot Rose $75
1967 Bertani Valpolicella Amarone $625
2003 Chateau Lascombes $325
1977 Dow Port 375ml $275
Glass of Ruinart N/V Rose $35 pp

7 Hour Dinner

Nor would the music & ambiance been as good.

Interesting exercise penciling it all out.

Photos of; the boats used to transport Port from Douro to Oporto called a “Barcas”, grape stomping in a Lagare and our Allen Brothers Lava Cake/Soufflé.

@Max Kelly I’m one for two with Roulot Aligote but the good one was excellent indeed. Leaner style, like Ramonet. Maybe I need another list for that style...

Meursault-Charmes 1er Cru Chardonnay 2002

Kellogg's Special K frosty cereal, sweet corn, yeasty and nutty. Compared to the Boisson Vadot, there is density and richness, but I suppose the age to this wine is a factor as well. A very different kind of Meursault. — 5 years ago
