A great showing from the 2001 Asili. Aromatic, intense and sublime. A real pleasure to share and drink this bottle with my mom and dad. My parents introduced me to the wines of Bruno Giacosa (and many other Piedmont greats like Gaja, Vietti etc.) when I was in high school. The first Giacosa wine I remember buying for myself on release was the 1989 Barbaresco Santo Stefano Riserva. It cost the princely sum of $55 a bottle😱which at the time was a splurge that felt borderline reckless...Even today, there is nothing like the wines of the Maestro. 😋❤️ — 7 years ago
Delicious. With a big 1.5 kg t-bone grilled on a salt block (for 3 people, I'm not a complete pig), mmmmm. Not as floral and complex as a Barbaresco, but nice complexity and excellent finish. — 8 years ago
On the nose, dark sour cherries, dates, burnt figs, grilled meats, burnt ambers, liquid smoke & dark dry florals. The core color is dark with garnet edges. The palate is; slightly sour but mostly sweet dark cherries, stewed plum, cooked strawberries, rhubarb, dates, figs, tomatoes, smoke, grilled meats, brewed coffee, light tarry notes, dry crushed rock powder, volcanic minerals, dark rich earth, dusty tannins, dry dark florals, soft chewy leather, nice round acidity with a decent, soft, elegant finish...50-50 fruit & earth. This is the largest co-op producer in Europe with 50 members. They collectively have 250 acres; which is about 1/6 of the total under vine. Photos of; the town of Barbaresco (their tasting room near the tower), Produttori cellar and their tasting bar. No appointment necessary. Close to Gaja and the town has one of the best one star Michelin lunches as well as the best service we've experienced. Just right of Gaja. Good with our Veal Bolognese. — 8 years ago
The grapes for this grappa come from Gaja's vineyards. Very complex, and although, not listed as a Aqua di Vita it was aged in barrels and pale gold in color. — 10 years ago

Over 150 years ago Giovanni Gaja opened a small restaurant in Barbaresco, making wine to complement the food he served. In 1859, he founded the Gaja Winery. I was lucky enough to get a taste! Deep Ruby with rich complex aromas of fruit, floral and earth. On the palate cherry and ripe blackberry flavors with cedar and toasty cacao. Well balanced on firm tannins just about approachable, lingering ending with a rich earthy character. Nice. Tasting Sample.

1999 Soldera Brunello. Lunch w A&S at Don G. Drank after the ‘82 Gaja Barbaresco. Stood up for 3 days prior and the wine was really clean. Slightly more sweetness than the Gaja but really enjoyed it. — 7 years ago

35% Nebbiolo 35% Merlot 30% Cab. Great with Cheese -- very super Tuscan like. — 9 years ago
In the words of my buddy, "smells like a beautiful lady." Herbs and flowers, orange blossom, cherry and plum, a hint of mulling spice, good dusty/gritty mouthfeel, nice phenols giving it some lovely notes on the exhale. Intensely earthy with great Rosewater and well managed oak. This estate is good friends with the adjacent Gaja vineyards, world renowned for their Nebbiolos. — 9 years ago
— 6 years ago
Ruby. Bitter almonds, menthol hints. Full bodied, rich. — 7 years ago
This mature Barbaresco 🍷- 1982 #Gaja Barbaresco Sorì Tildìn - reminds me of how wine from #Piedmont can light up one’s sensory dashboard: a swirl of flowers, mint, and cherries on a medium weight frame, accented by a lovely earthiness. Concentrated and expressive, with a silky finish that turns a bit spicy after some time. The Sorì Tildìn vineyard is named after Angelo Gaja’s grandmother 👵 , and this refined effort is due tribute. — 7 years ago
Magnum 1999 Domaine G. Roumier Bonnes Mares burgundy. Big group lunch at The I while B&M Sh were visiting. Drank this after the 3L Gaja Barbaresco and glad we did- more complex, deeper in flavor, and bigger. This wine was absolutely perfect. Needed quite a bit of time to open up. Had that slight sweetness, but not overly so. Lots of fruit. Exactly how K enjoys a burgundy. Big wine and could definitely hold for quite a while longer. — 9 years ago

Very dark Ruby in colour. Classic Bordeaux nose in this case right bank being 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc. Aromatic notes of Cassis muted plum and a tobacco note - nicely perfumed carrying on to the medium bodied palate. Very refined with good length. Angelo Gaja is a superstar of Italian winemaking having established his reputation in Piemonte, particularly Barbaresco, now has a base in Tuscany and, with this wine, coastal Tuscany as in Bolgheri - Italy’s answer to Bordeaux. One of the 1001 Wines. — 5 years ago
