First red on night four at Chops Grille aboard the Harmony of the Seas. Deep purplish red. Rich nose with sweet cinnamon, vanilla, blackberries, cassis, dark gravel and dark cocoa. Heavy tannins (7.5/10) and full bodied. Lush palate with blue and black fruits as well as baking spices, purple flowers and a bit of minerals. Long and lingering finish with a touch of heat. Could use a short decant next time. Drink till 2033. — 7 years ago

It's that time of year again! Generous Pour at The Capital Grille. (9) wines, all 90+ points, all you can enjoy, for $28. The Mt Brave, Mt Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon is a great match for their bone-in filet mignon. Dark, rich, gentle structure and deep fruits. Nice finish that made it the favorite of the night. — 8 years ago

Pear, stone, oak, more spring than autumn. A breezy spring day with a few dry leaves still blowing down the walkway. Buds on the branches. Glad I'm wearing a sweater. Here comes the sun. Another sip... take a deep clean breath. The grille comes out of the shed for that lovely white fleshed fish with lemon and olive oil. Crusty bread. Asparagus. Jazz or just the birds? Loved this Rose. It was dry, crisp and refreshing. I had it at lunch and it paired nicely with my gazpacho soup as well as my companions lobster salad and another companions "heavier" lunch.

Houston’s very own Del Frisco’s Grille is sadly shutting down. So, as it was with their fine steakhouse concept ‘Sullivan’s’ when it closed down, they’re doing a 50% off promotion for ALL alcohol. Needless to say...we have a few dinners lined up with our Supper Club and other friends before they shutter their doors for good on 9/16.

This is about as good as New World entry-level Chardonnay gets. — 7 years ago

It can be hard to rate wine appropriately when you are enjoying one of the best steaks out there! Lovely evening with family celebrating my wife and father-in-law's birthdays. This is an excellent house wine. This and the Sullivan's private label (Steve Matthiason is the winemaker for Sullivan's...maybe Del Frisco's too?) are without a doubt some of the finest house wines out there. This is a bold cab on the nose and tongue. Probably needs 2-3 years in the bottle to calm down since it's young at '14, but the tannins aren't overpowering. Big integration of oak; doesn't take away from the tart blackberries and candied plum. Lengthy finish. — 9 years ago

Enjoyed last night at Del Frisco's Fort Worth. To prevent a 300 dollar bill, we have always either opened a bottle of white and glasses of red or vice versa. We found this little guy in a 325, which probably wasn't bad considering that I think this would have been even MORE locked up from a 750. This wine did take probably 30 minutes before it was able to be enjoyed. Once it did, it was quite velvety on the front, with a good dark raspberry and classic French terroir on the nose and palate. Herbal notes like clove in the middle, all the while a very soft and red fruit backbone. The wine had a great complexity to it, and nice acidity and tannic balance that went perfectly with steak. Medium + bodied. I think my experience would be better in 2-3 years (from 375), probably 5 years from a 750. Nice little dinner wine. — 8 years ago

La Chapelle hits it out of the ballpark! Here is a Mâcon chard at under $20 that should be purchased by the case. A delicious hint of tropical fruits and no hint of oak on the palate. Some oak and pain grille aromas, but the balance here is spot on. This is a great find by Peter Weygandt. — 8 years ago

A great time at The Capital Grille deserves some great wines. We had a few and ran the Napa gamut. The Insignia was up first and it did not disappoint. They always have a nice complexity of flavors battling it out for attention. One moment it is an early blackberry and the next it is a bright plum. Truly enjoyable. — 9 years ago
