Colares Ramisco 2008

Incredible finish. Tastes like a Douro, Touriga, but has a very delicate and lingering finish. Love love! — 2 years ago

Casal do Ramilo

Colares Malvasia 2017

Italian cream soda, caramel du sel, dried apricot. Hints of sherry and nori umami, with a rich creamy mouthfeel. Finish goes on forever. Think vin jaune aged in sauterne casks by the ocean in sanlucar de barrameda. Malvasia from colares, Portugal. Can’t believe this is only 3 years old. — 4 years ago

This is the wine region I’ve fallen in love with- the reds from Colares are of the Ramisco varietal. The amount of wine from that region is minuscule @Josh Morgenthau- I cant find the whites here so far (NYC)

@Peter Sultan they are incredible. The ramiscos I’ve tried have been phenomenal but still so young. This is drinking perfectly. I got this bottle at Astor wines. They’re sold out now, but it looks like USQ wines has some.

There must be a story here, as this 100% Ramisco has a Colheita designation on its label, which I thought could only be used for Port. For a 23 yro wine it still flutters with intensity, but has a faded Ribena palate, beautiful red brick color, & crushed currants/oil paint on the nose. It also avoids the metallic flavor my previous bottle had. For under 40$ it’s a treat to taste such a graceful aged wine. — 4 years ago

— 6 years ago

Colares Branco 2005

Medium lemon; medium intensity aromas of yellow apple, firm apricot, cream, custard, salinity; dry, high acid, medium alcohol, medium plus body, medium plus intensity flavors consistent with aromas; medium plus finish, concentrated bright fruit with complexity from rich creamy notes and minerality , very crisp acid balances the body and creaminess, makes you want to keep drinking it — 3 years ago

Casal da Azenha Red Blend 2014

Interesting Portuguese wine, grown right by Colares but not in the DOC. Powerful wine, with dark red and black fruits, tobacco, tar, and great spice. High ABV, notable international the nose but less so on the palate. Available in NYC for a good bit less than $20 per bottle: not bad! — 4 years ago

What a wine! It got richer with time in bottle. Just ripe lemons, intriguing basil and rosemary notes. Acid shows really tense, with a beautiful saline texture. Long. — 7 years ago

Arenæ Colares Ramisco 2006

A new wine for me from an ancient and dying region in Portugal. In favor of beach homes and development, the old timers that tended the vines in this region are selling their property as its pretty hard to market and sell these wines. A sad state of affairs especially for what I tasted here. Thank you @TJ Maxwell for the introduction! — 8 years ago

I've yet to open my only bottle brought home from Lisbon but I have heard they fall apart a bit pretty quickly with air... Was this your experience? How long did you have it open and watch it?

Was open for approx. 10 hours - lunch til late evening. Wasn't falling apart, but did improve.

Chão Rijo Colares Castelão

Had the 2011 vintage. Luscious, well rounded. A bit sharp initially but really opened up. Fruity, berry with some tannins. Would try to but if found locally. — 10 years ago
