Rating 2014 a 96 for now so the scale has somewhere to go up once it gets some age. Aromatics hit the nose with power and went down nicely. This one will be great @Bruce Phillips scary good for being this young. Cheers! β€” 9 years ago

@Ryan Mitchell I am a huge fan of the VHR. Such an incredibly well crafted wine. They knock it out of the park every year! I can't wait to try their 14. Great pull Paul Ryan! πŸ‘πŸ·πŸ·πŸ‘

@Eric LaMasters this is their label before the commercial label goes on. The VHR label is one of my favorites to obsess/analyze since they put all the detail of every block of fruit within. Once you get your 2014 allocation (and yes you should) it'll have the traditional label. Mark down these blocks and the weather - truly special.

@Martin G Rivard VHR is probably my favorite. Yes, there, I said it. Can't beat the dedication to the land and every year is consistently getting better. Did drop your names to @Bruce Phillips to share some of the fun we have been having on @Delectable Wine . No shocker remembered you both @Martin G Rivard and @David A Lentine right away. Enjoy your evening. I told David next year I'll be there.

Birth year bottle for our first born daughter, Haley. Celebrating her graduation from Iowa State this weekend and her achieving gainful employment one week from tomorrow. The cork was stubborn but eventually cooperated, and we decanted and filtered the wine. Tart cherry the first sip, wondering if we needed a backup. Beautifully brick coloring and the sharp edges are rounding out and now we’re getting a smooth mid palate of dark berries and spice leading to a bright finish. And a bright future! πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ·πŸ‘©β€πŸŽ“. Cheers! β€” 7 years ago

Insignia Estate Grown Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2004

I've had this bottle in the cellar for a LONG time (probably past peak)...waiting for the right occasion. Here is to ten eventful years of Builders Bargain. Jammy, delicate flavor. 13 years of aging has given this a very earthy quality. Decanted for 90 minutes but should get even more spectacular through the evening. Cheers! β€” 9 years ago

Botanivore Gin

My favorite gin to accompany tonic. Without a doubt more effervescent than hendrick's, but would recommend their dry gin for a gin martini. Very floral and delicious, little bit of spice. β€” 9 years ago

Alessio Chinato Vermouth Nebbiolo

Less complex than Carpano Antica. This vermouth chinato has loads of dry orange peal, dark molasses and a hint of tamari. It is quite tasty. β€” 11 years ago

@Mike R Wish that we could have shared it with a discriminating wine lover like you. If you haven't been there the Post Hotel in Lake Louise Alberta has one of the best wine collections in Canada which coupled with gourmet food and world class skiing you can't go wrong. My wife and I go 2-3 times a year just for the whole experience. Cheers πŸ·πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦

Casanova di Neri

Tenuta Nuova Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2008

I've had every vintage of this bottle from 2001 to 2008 (with the exception of 2002, which I'm not sure if they were able to produce). I've even sampled their 2010, which may rival their best vintages (1997, 2001, 2004, 2006). After an hour of decanting the deep cherry and blackberry fruit dominate this graceful glass. Sweet but not tart, the finish lingers with a subtle smile. By the vineyards standard, 2008 is a wonderful bottle. Cheers!! β€” 10 years ago
