Fabuleux. Un équilibre parfait entre puissance, complexité et gras. — 3 years ago
This is a rosè, so not sure about the other ratings for a red. Syrah, Grenache, Cinsault blend. Strawberries, orange, salt, slate. Amazing, and well balanced — 6 years ago
Basic red blend, but really hit the spot. Opened up with oxygen and was perfectly balanced for a chilly night. Would be good with red meat, but we had it with fish pot roast. I loved it. — a year ago
Given that I am the only reviewer thus far, I feel the need to provide an update. Enjoying my last bottle now. The nose is of prune, stewed fruits, earth. On the palate, the tannins are now fully integrated, muddled blue and black fruits dominate, with some raisin and prune. A much better showing than my prior review. I feel almost apologetic because this is a very good Gigondas. I wouldn't hold this longer though.

Inky ruby. Assertive dark berry and cherry compote scents are complicated by suggestions of candied flowers, spicecake and licorice. Concentrated yet lively on the palate, offering sappy dark fruit and candied violet flavors that fan out slowly on the back half. Shows very good energy, increasing sweetness and steadily building, chewy tannins on the persistent finish. All concrete. (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, February 2020)

The vines for Chapoutiers “L’Ermite” are largely pre-phylloxera and some are well over a century old. Along with the typical associated fruits and non-fruits: brambles, spiced grilled meat and minerals, this bottle of the 1999 had a bit of a radish note, some old dusty leather-bound books and also had a touch of ethyl acetate. A touch closed relative to the other wines in the Hermitage flight but certainly didn’t seem to be fading and the grilled lamb and Moroccan spices helped to unlock some of its character. Drink now through 2035. Merci Dave! — 2 months ago
