Château Ducru Beaucaillou

Château Ducru-Beaucaillou

Croix de Beaucaillou Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2012

Dark rubi robe, nose of blackcurrant, cedar and flowers. Very elegant and polished tannins, its an excellent vintage with the moderate and classical touch of the property. Great stuff.

Giacomo Fenocchio

Villero Barolo Nebbiolo 2009

Had the 2009 Cannubi at an intimate tasting including a 1982 Ducru Beaucaillou!! Which was nearly perfect by the way. This Barolo while 9 years old was still ruby colored with structure and fresh tart berries. Also elegant and enchanting. Delicate earth, leather, herbs and olive tones. Perfect balance, and likely has at least another 9 years ahead of it. I’ve had the good fortune to have 2 sublime Nebbiolos within a week of each other. Aldo had 3 great highly touted Napa Cabs, but this Barolo eclipsed them with its subtlety and finesse — 5 years ago

Took a while to open. Sweet, acidic a bit out of balance at first then came together. 1996 — 6 years ago

@Manny Abascal i think this is the 2nd wine from Ducru, not the 1st, as its currently labeled. Still a wonderful example.

Seamless and powerful. Pencil lead, chewy but smooth delicious and yummy. This is a nice contrast to the Ducru. Both are excellent but stylistically different. — 7 years ago

Dinner at Christophe Coperet's house. He opened some delicious bottles:
Champagne Tarlant - la matinale - 2003
Sauternes - Château Yquem - 1981 (this was ridiculously good)
St Julien - Château Branaire Ducru - 2008
St Julien - Château Talbot - 1998
St Julien - Château Beychevelle - 1988
Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "La Combe d'Orveau" - Domaine Henri Perrot Minot - 1998 (my favorite of the list)
Pouilly Fuisse - Domaine Corsin - 1998.

Got a great deal on 6 pack of these two Bordeaux greats. Both got scores of 99, but the range of scores was pretty wide for both as well. I know I have to lay them down for 10 years+ but I wanted to try both for a baseline.
The Palmer is showing a lot more than the Ducru. It’s very enjoyable now! Nose is fantastic if a touch muted but still get nice cedar, black cherry, hint of floral, and something herbal. The palate is slate, cherry, blackberry, and currant. Not muted or closed in the least, but the slate thing overlays the fruit. Does that make sense? Help me describe that.
All in all I love this wine. Can’t hardly wait for 10 years from now. Guessing I won’t!

Château Ducru-Beaucaillou

Le Petit Caillou St. Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2010

Very profound nose which reminded me of a couple of bottles I had of clos du marquis. I said saint Julien but wasn’t sure. Blackcurrant, coffee, meat, tea... different layers. I was pretty sure at that point that it was a grand cru classé... the palate is not that wide and powerful. I thought then grand cru classé but in a small recent year. 2011 or 2013. The palate was evolving around an acid backbone with fine tannins and a lovely yet discreet fruit. Moderately long finish with fruit, coffee again and a pinch of salt. I finally went for haut marbuzet 2011. I was far away from it! Always trust a first impression. Superb nose, palate a bit under delivering when the nose raises such expectations. Overall lovely and well done. — 6 years ago

Domaine Robert Arnoux / Arnoux-Lachaux

Les Suchots Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Pinot Noir 1995

Amber tawny color, dark but translucent. Aromatic nose with notes of raspberry, rhubarb, Asian spice, moist earth and a little menthol. Great fruit with structure to match, but slightly short of the emotion of the 82 Ducru sitting next to it. Still, this is a great wine. Love the Arnoux Suchots. UPDATE: with more air (open 5* hours) this blossoms in a bigger way. Huge nose and crazy burg funk. — 6 years ago

Château Mouton Rothschild

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1996

In line with the 96 Ducru I popped recently, fhis was a huge, almost slutty wine. Loads of black and blue fruit, soft cedar, but still extremely primary. On the palate: loads of black and red fruit, good acidity and a touch of leather. Stylish finely grained tannin on the finish. Lovely, but still needs 25 years. — a year ago

Château Haut-Brion

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 1988

Dark ruby, almost opaque. Doesn't look that old in the glass. Herbal nose with dark fruit, white pepper, gravel, some dry earthy dust. Shorter finish than what the nose offers. Good effort for the vintage. I guessed 82 Ducru. — 3 years ago

Holy crap this is a serious bottle of Cabernet. Rich and thick. Very full bodied but almost built like a ripe vintage bordeaux (think 03 cos or 03 ducru)... this is suave silky and seductive. Amazing amounts of extract but seamless in every way... shit this is good when you're craving a big juicy and complex cab. — 6 years ago
