The 2018 Grand Puy Lacoste has a quintessential Pauillac nose of intense black fruit infused with graphite scents, pencil shavings and a very discreet marine influence. It is beautifully defined, less opulent than the 2018 Lynch Bages tasted alongside, yet maybe more complex. The palate is medium-bodied and taut, offering sappy black fruit, gritty tannins and a lot of crushed stone. The focused, graphite-driven finish could only come from this appellation. Superb. A wine to correct those bemoaning that Bordeaux no longer makes "proper Claret." (Neal Martin, Vinous, March 2021)

This was a bottle lost in my cellar. Stored in a field stone cellar for about 31 years! The cork was great and came out whole- no problem. Drank over an hour and never lost its fruit. Totally in harmony just sweet cherry fruit with still good length. One of those great surprises. Had it with a spicy preparation of hanger steak and enjoyed it with my Love PJ. Wow. Cork went pewf on exit like a grenade. Initial nose of stewed cherry, and camphor gave way to a wonderful taste of dark fruit, charcoal and some tertiary flavors. Citrus, lead and some tar...candied nuts... Awesome stuff. Looks 20yrs younger. Beat out the Lynch Bages tonight. — 11 years ago

I am excited to try this Bordeaux for it is the original Lynch Bages before Lynch Bages became Lynch Bages. Lynch Moussas was split into two in the 18th century to form Lynch Moussas and Lynch Bages. Lynch Moussas was Classified as a Classed Growth by the 1855 classification. I believe it is considered a Fifth Growth. This wine is made up of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot. The aromas are of ripe plum, bakers chocolate, deep dark fruit. A totally beautiful bouquet. Big black currants, smooth ripe tannins, a nice smokiness, and well balanced. Medium + body, full mouth feel, with good dark fruit on the palate. This is a joy to drink and am very pleased with what I have found. — 13 years ago

The 1993 Pichon LaLande is great right now. Younger daughter's birthyear wine, drank with '89 Lynch Bages at Christmas dinner. More fruit than spice/tar in nose. Good acidity with softer tannins in the finish. Nice cherry fruit on the palate. Fruit lingered well in the finish. Drink up over next couple years. — 10 years ago
