Lovely specialty wine — 7 years ago
This is as mystical as the gorgeous flower on the label. Packed with fruit, with an oily texture, off dry but dry if you catch the drift. Simply thrilling. — 7 years ago

Like great cry Beaujolais — 5 years ago
Smooth, mellow and refreshing. Local store had it for $14.50. A far cry from the restaurant bottle price of $65!they wanted the night before! Good with roasted sweet potatoes. — 7 years ago
This stuff is good, flowery and smooth - had it with ice! Got a taste of another one of their gins - flowery with a pine resin Christmas feel to it - didn’t catch the name though. — 7 years ago
This was the wine of the tasting and weekend. It’s in a perfect place right now. Beautifully integrated, amazing fruits with a lean toward blue fruit with dark cherries, baking spices as they should be in all Napa red...soft, balanced blends and perfectly layered. Bright, beautiful dark florals, nicely balanced, great texture and long beautiful finish. Great experience hosted by my fellow Sommelier and friend, Brian Baker. Thank you for a great day tasting. As well, great to catch up. Lokoya’s new facility is amazing. Pictures don’t do it justice. — 8 years ago
We brought this bottle up from the cellar and pulled the cork about two hours before dinner simply to let it catch its breath and come up to temperature. In the glass, a very deep crimson robe. Notes of cherry pie, burned toast, a touch of wild game...a bit hot though too and I found that to be a bit distracting. On the palate, dark cherries and plums...just a hint of spice but pretty simple really. Very soft mouthfeel. Tannins have integrated and acid is low-ish so I can't imagine any reason to hold out in hopes of more. Set your expectations, if you have any, to "moderate" and drink now. — 9 years ago
Love the rich complex earthy nose of this medoc cry bourgeois! — 9 years ago
Tight, light and bright! Once you get the cork removed (without a doubt the most difficult cork I have ever encountered), the first mouthful is obviously a reminder this wine needs air, some time to breathe and patience to encounter the full dimensions of its beauty. While feeling light in the mouth, the flavors catch up and explode starting with the tongue and moving back to the throat. All of the expected and anticipated Brunello characteristics are present in varying degrees but this wine needs a few more years in the bottle to be at its peak. — 5 years ago
In December I took my Chicago Bear/San Diego-LA Charger loving Dad for a trip to to Chicago that culminated in a trip to Green Bay to catch a Packer game. We stopped off in Elkhart Lake with my friend from CA who grew up in the area and his sister runs the Lake Street Cafe in town. This was WOTN of the 4 wines that I brought to this leg of the trip. So much depth here, mouth coating tannins and gobs of well integrated fruit. — 7 years ago
Saturday night had a dual mission: to find a world class steak and to have a great catch-up with a couple of old friends. We're in Manhattan. Mission: Utterly Probable.
We headed to the Bowery Meat Company, which has become a regular fixture on various Best New York Steakhouses lists. The knowledgeable server brought us a fine array of steaks, explained some of the more unusual cuts and provided useful advice on the selection. The 40oz T-Bone Florentine was our table's centerpiece and delicious. Goal #1, done.
One of the strengths of the Bowery Meat Company is its extensive, well chosen wine list. It also allows corkage ($40/bottle, max 2). I brought along this excellent 2009 Sociando-Mallet, possibly the best value wine in Bordeaux. Pure Old World charm with lashings of leather, tar and dark fruits. Plenty of complexity and drinking beautifully. The bottle drained quickly with plenty of laughs and anecdotes. Goal #2, done. — 8 years ago
09' Morlet Passionnement It's a blend from To Kalon, Missouri Hopper & Knights valley.
Don't know what to think about my 09's from Napa Valley. Love them! Not in love with them. Awkward drinking stage?
Nose- Blackberry, cassis. Palate-Black cherry, tobacco, mint & bitter chocolate on the mid palate. This 100% cab is slightly hollow. Drinking with nice length and complexity. I'm guessing the front of the palate should catch up to the back? Hold.
Good bottle of wine. If you can find the 2008... recommend highly.

Chateau Musar 2004 Bekaa Valley Rouge (SRP $53): Pale-medium garnet in color, this medium-bodied wine leads with tart red berry fruit, dried cranberries and earthy flavors framed by notes of worn leather, sweet tobacco leaf, forest floor, dried flowers, and fennel seed. It opens nicely over time and ends with more earthy/funky qualities than the red fruit you catch up-front. Well-balanced, a generous underpinning of fresh acidity supports a sleek yet age-worthy frame. There is this savory complexity combined with pretty aspects and a funky core that I like in this wine.

Boysenberry, moss, black cherry, dark red plum, elderberry. A blend with a delightful personality, gentle, sweet, but a little bite that will catch you off-guard. — 5 years ago
