Campania Felix Wine

Mastroberardino

Radici Taurasi Aglianico 2018

If I could shower love on one varietal that doesn’t get enough love it would be this Aglianico. Dark small currants, blackberries & black plum on palate; smoke & camphor on nose. Pitch perfect balance between freshness & power, which I think is Aglianico ‘s great balancing act. Sweet drinking window now but this has legs too—-oh, & price is an absurd 30$ for this quality of wine & winemaking. — 3 months ago

Feudi di San Gregorio

Rubrato Irpinia Aglianico 2018

Dark ruby/purple color with a slight garnet rim. Aromas of ripe black berry/currant fruit, ash, smoke and leather. Sour red and black cherry fruit on the palate with additional notes of figs, black olives, woody herbs and black pepper spice. Nice hint of charred oak on the medium-plus finish. Well balanced and powerful. Better as it opened up so give this wine a decant. Solid QPR. — 5 months ago

Fattoria Galardi

Terra di Lavoro Roccamonfina Aglianico Piedirosso 2010

Opened and decanted 2.5 hours in advance of our inaugural Aglianco Osso Buco wine dinner here at the Gotham

Facing off against a range of Aglianco from Unti in Sonoma, Leonetti in WA and Galardi 2007 in Campania

The 2010 Galardi was the most dense and as with the 2007, the fruit was minimal. Instead the flavor profile is herbs, green olives and incredible savory notes. It worked incredibly well with the osso buco and needed the richness to shine. This wine still had a bit of hard edges and could use more bottle age IMO

Irpinia Fiano 2018

100% Fiano, aged 6 months in stainless on its lees, lemon yellow color with aromas of tropical and stone fruits with nutty notes. On the palate flavors of melon, apple and pear with sweet citrus notes. Medium+ length, balanced with lively acidity, ending with fruit and flinty mineral character. Organic! — 4 months ago

Azienda Agricola Montevetrano

Colli di Salerno Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2007

Decanted about 30 minutes prior to service; enjoyed over the course of a few hours. The 2007 pours a deep ruby color with an opaque core; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears and some signs of light sediment. On the nose, the wine is vinous with powerful notes of ripe red and dark fruits: brambles, kirsch, plum, tobacco, purple flowers, green bell pepper, leather, cocoa, and earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. This is positively delightful right now and there are little signs of slowing down. Drink now through 2037. — 5 months ago

Feudi di San Gregorio

Taurasi Aglianico 2010

After 15 years this is starting to shed its gloomy and cranky nature. Black fruit, volcanic minerality, tons of fiery and smoky nuances, refreshing acidity.
Very nice!

Vasse Felix

Margaret River Chardonnay 2017

This is the 2nd rated Vasse Felix Chardonnay behind the world class Heytesbury and ahead of the amazing value Filius. This was my last 2017 having made no notes for the first two. Expresses everything which is great about Margaret River Chardonnay. Complexity without cost. Ripe grapefruit with a balanced creamy French oak note which is largely integrated at 7 years of age. More citrus than stone fruit - a little nectarine? Great QPR at $31 AUD. — 7 months ago

@Bob McDonald, I wish I could find this and the Heytesbury here on the U.S. West Coast — Vasse Felix really does great stuff at such low price points!!

Heytesbury Margaret River Chardonnay 2015

At my Chardonnay Challenge of 6 wines with very close scores the Heytesbury finished 6th. I still gave it 95 points and a Gold Medal. HH said “powerful grapefruit and citrus - Gingin/Mendoza clones and 97 points “. A semi regular annual purchase for me. Had my 2nd last bottle 31 weeks later on 11th April 2025. Still holding up - delicious, funky and a class act. Still strong citrus and grapefruit and a smoky note. — 10 months ago

@Doug Powers I think most of these wines would be available in the US maybe with the exception of the Giaconda.
