Birth year wine for a very good friend acquired from the irrepressible @Matthew Beckman still a lot of depth and density, solid structure and lots of red currant, grilled herbs, menthol and cedar. Pop and pour with confidence. — 7 years ago
My first Selosse, with thanks to @Matthew Beckman. Excellent. #RememberingAlecWhite — 7 years ago
A powerfully dense wine with dried black fruit characteristics plus a solid dose of vanilla and baking spice. A great lamb companion. — 8 years ago
Anniversary wine. Thank you to Mrs A for 32 great years and cheers to 32 more. 🍷Base neck fill, but after removing foil saw that this had seeped just a bit. Cork disintegrated and server couldn't save it even with the Ah So I gave him. Strained into decanter. Acid s bit out of balance to start, but fleshed out nicely in about 45 min. Nice cigar box nose and very good with steaks. Thanks to @Matthew Beckman for not completely cornering the market on older Mayacamas and allowing me to snag at least one bottle on line. 🙏 — 8 years ago
(Catching up from 6/23 - JB’s Pig Roast) what a great treat from @Matthew Beckman. Didn’t immediately recognize this as a Pur Sang based on the old label A bit of funky cabbage on the nose to start, but this was amazingly in tact for a nearly 25 year old Sauv Blanc. Wow. — 6 years ago
I enjoyed this more than our host. Nice slice of Cali Cab history from @Matthew Beckman. — 7 years ago
had the 2013. toast, fruit, nutty — 7 years ago
This wine was as old or older than most in the group (other than me), but still showing well. Thank you @Matthew Beckman. #RememberingAlecWhite — 7 years ago
Clear, stony, metallic anjou pears. A good wine friend died last night in Paris. He was a dependable member of our San Diego tasting group visiting his first grandchild and we are struggling with our collective loss. @Alec White loved Bordeaux, good cheese and #sauternes. Hug your kids and your parents this week. @Dan Blackwell @Vickie Beuerle @Max Kogod @Matthew Beckman @Bill Bender @Steve Anderson @Jason Berry @Michael Meyer — 7 years ago
Astounding integrity and verve at 50! Oily hazelnut on the nose, golden amber in the glass. Viscous petrol, almond and burnt honey. Such a treat! Sourced from Hart Davis Hart, extracted with panache by @Matthew Beckman and graciously paired with tasty apricot cobbler by @romo who said it was still rock solid on day zwei — 8 years ago
Flight 2 WOTF. Gorgeous Sangiovese. Thanks @Matthew Beckman — 9 years ago
My maiden voyage with Coche-Dury Rouge. This was all kinds of pure and fresh with an admirable brawny, ripe and chewy mouthfeel. Ruby red and black cherries, rich soil and substantial tingly length. Balanced through and through. Will only get better. Thank you @Matthew Beckman — 6 years ago
Thanks @Matthew Beckman. — 7 years ago
Gifted about two months ago by @Matthew Beckman, with a requirement that I report back when opened. Thought about opening over the holidays, but with the "Selected for the 1981 Presidential Inauguration" band , how could I not wait until Jan 20th? Condition was outstanding with a fill just into the neck. Cork was a little soft, but came out intact with barely any wine incursion. Color was medium ruby red and quite clear. Nose was a just bit bretty to start, but some cedar and tobacco came through in time, then more of a green pepper note. Not much fruit left, but a very good showing for a 39 year old Sonoma Cab. Label indicates 100% Cab, 13.2% ABV, and of course Rodney Strong as winemaker. Thanks Matt! 🍷 — 7 years ago
Extremely dark, but still gorgeous. Thank you@Matthew Beckman. — 8 years ago

It’s been called “the greatest wine you’ve never heard of” or a true “unicorn” wine but is inarguably an under the radar California legend. In the early 2000’s it ran away with the title at a CA recreation of the 1976 Judgment of Paris. Google the wine and learn a little about Mario Gemello and this vintage in particular. Fun stuff. This was over the hill IMO but gets a 90 for coolness factor alone. From the master of the Durand @Matthew Beckman — 5 years ago
