Wow, acid is here and that's for sure. Utterly refreshing, peppery lime nose. Grapefruit, gave, bitter lime but all very balanced. I could drink a bucket. — 7 years ago
The winner of the Downs Club Premium Red taste off from 41 masked Reds. Not my final choice but democracy prevailed by 4 votes to 3. This was in my final 3. A nice balance of sweet red fruits with some spice and hint of pepper. Balanced and smooth. Will cellar up to 10 years but overall a little too sweet for my palate. This past Saturday I attended a get together with close friends. We opened the 2014 Saarloos & Sons Family Tree Rhone Blend. 55% Grenache, 27% Mourvedre and 18% Syrah. This was the hit of the evening that turned heads and got people talking.
The nose was light with cherry, raspberry, plum, cinnamon, black pepper, anise, roses and an earthy gravel.
On the palate was beautiful fruit of black cherry, blackberry, plum, black pepper, anise , clove and a good gravel component.
The wine was soft velvety smooth with a medium mouth feel and medium to plus acidity with medium smooth tannin that leads to a medium long finish. A very enjoyable wine. Almost the weekend please be safe. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷 — 8 years ago
