Yet another winner from Ciro at Le Volpe e l’uva, this is a pinot nero from Tuscany (as opposed to Sudtriol, which is where I usually expect to find these). Just a terrific wine with a nose reminiscent of sour cherry with hints of leather, tobacco, and spice (nutmeg?). Beautifully balanced on the palate, with enough acidity for it to keep up with dinner (lemon and ricotta ravioli with a tomato-based pumpkin-chipotle sauce) but not so much that you can’t thoroughly enjoy it on its own. Really terrific. — 4 years ago
Nice blend, well balanced. Just got better and better through the night — 7 years ago
Solid carricante. Slightly salty nice acidity full bodied. Big mouthfeel — 7 years ago
Not typically a producer I like, but this was solid. Although the 17’ Il Poggione BdM was certainly more tannic and robust than the 18’ Biondi Rosso, I thought it was still quite elegant with its zesty acidity, floral aromas, and a chewy palate fruit. Needed some 3 hours in the decanter to peep through the veil and calm the tannins. Dark-fruited, with tobacco, spice, wood, dried roses, and herbs. Tasty. — a year ago
Elegant and delicious Brunello for my 43rd birthday. I’m a sucker for the Brunellos coming from North of town of Montalcino like La Gerla, Il Marroneto and Biondi Santi. This offering from La Gerla was shy at the start but opened up beautifully after 4 hours. Notes are from two nights. Morello cherry, wild strawberry, dusty earth, old cedar, dried potpourri, dried rose petal, spice, licorice, dried Tuscan herbs, tobacco and worn leather Medium plus body, medium plus tannin, medium plus acidity and medium plus length of finish.

Absolutely delicious, a full bodied yet light brunello. Another great wine shared from Jesse. Went perfectly with a dinner of roasted salmon. — 4 years ago
Biodynamic producer ! This is a steal , way better than a Biondi Santi at a much better price . Such great acidity and what a wine . — 7 years ago

Smooth oil, almost orangish. Lush and minerally. Notes of apricot, pears, and cheese rind — 3 years ago
This and the biondi Otis were the best wines we had in Sicily. Pinot noir style, but with the Etna terroir. — 6 years ago

Quality Sangiovese grapes which have been sadly overoaked to appeal to newbie Western Palates. After 30 minutes notes of earth and dried cherry came through. Many years to go with a good future when hopefully the oak will diminish. Personally I like the Old school approach from Biondi Santi where old oak and other procedures are usedresulting in wines which will age 50+ years. I tried a 2010 vintage of this wine from magnum in Italy 18 months ago which was also overoaked. — 7 years ago
