Margheria Barolo Nebbiolo 2019

Delectable Wine
9.1

The 2019 Barolo Margheria is laced with sage, menthol, licorice, underbrush, dried herbs and sage. This sinewy Serralunga Barolo has good depth, although it is on the lighter side structurally for this cru. Nevertheless, the wine's persistence makes up for that to some degree. Paolo Scavino

Bric dël Fiasc Barolo Nebbiolo 1999

Fascinating to drink next to its Azelia vintage vineyard-mate, the Scavino was shy on the nose even after an hour. Some tar, sour cherry came through, and preceded a deeply powerful core of black tea, loamy dark cherry and Grand Cru Burgundy essence of vinous power. 45 second length, not a hard edge to be found...this may last years but can’t imagine how it will improve. Phenomenal. — 6 years ago

Barolo is a struggle to drink young. It needs many year to flush itself out.

This enters round, pleasant and like most young Italian reds falls onto wood plank.

Dry dark cherries, lean blackberries, fresh rhubarb, some dry strawberries, tarriness, meaty tannins, dry tobacco, fresh leather, wood barrel shavings, some anise, understated dark spice, hints of nutmeg, dry, red, dark flowers, nice acidity, well structured, tensioned, balanced and a woody ending.

I would not open this for 15-20 years for its better self, which raises its rating 2-3 points. Still in a primary stage.

The aroma is similar to Azelia, authentic and pure, but missing some bass components. It even shows some natural wine tendencies, slightly volatile and gassy, which settles down quickly. The structure lacks the authority and the weight but it scores high in transparency and dynamics. It will not challenge the supremacy of Conternos, Mascarellos and Odderos because its aroma is less complex and powerful, but its structure is built on radically different geometry, which makes it very exciting. There is also a Burgundian sense of mastery of texture, and distinctiveness of aroma that separates it from more pedestrian Barolo’s. Also worth noting that while it shows the authentic character of Barolo it does not forego a strong individuality of the winemaker. — 4 years ago

'CERRETTA' BAROLO Nebbiolo 2018

Azelia Barolos at VinItaly! Back from Verona and what a really great experience. Really enjoyed meeting Lorenzo & his father Luigi from Azelia. Their wines reflect great passion, focused craftsmanship & pure elegance. Here are two of their outstanding Barolo wines I had the great pleasure of tasting with them. Fantastic nose. Impeccable balance. Awesome fruit. This is Nebbiolo at its best! These wines were simply amazing. Cheers🍷 — 2 years ago
