Italy’s hard. There are too damn many esoteric grapes and regions to sort out, and often sold at a premium. But for big, intense and fruit-forward wines, Brunello di Montalcino is worth the extra cash on a special ocassion. Montalcino is a hilltop village in Tuscany, Brunello is the local nickname for sangiovese grapes grown there. 95 pts from RP: "An extra special wine, the 2009 possesses full body as well as a terrific bouquet of blue and black fruits, crushed rocks and spring flowers." This wine definitely called for a nice steak, it's muscular, super rich. I would cellar this for a while. It's a limited production release which is full bodied and a great example of 2009 Napa Cabernets. — 8 years ago

Chuparosa Vineyards is one of the best producers (along with Edwards) in the new Ramona AVA. Awesome Zins, Cab Franc, Sangiovese and the winemakers own Super Tuscan. All Estate Wines. If you're in San Diego, this is a must stop.
