Big and chewy. Great with fatty meat. Minerals and big tannins. Fruity and deep. Too bad they don't make this anymore. Prob 5 more years in this wine if I was more patient. Blackberry. Blueberry. Wet stone. Licorice. Choc covered cherry. A great wine from a great vintage. — 7 years ago

Decanted for 4 hours. Smoky, meaty flavors but somewhat mellow. — 9 years ago
Just finished a Catena wine dinner and decided to pull this from the cellar to see how it compared. Not surprisingly, this is a totally different creature as compared to the younger Argentinian malbecs we just had, but this is very, very good. The nose strikes me more like a younger cabernet, not a 20-year-old malbec. Nice fruit up front with some leather and sour cherry notes on the edge. The tannins have fallen away considerably, but there's still enough of an acidic backbone to keep the wine alive through the mid-palate. The finish thins out a bit but has some nice layers of flavor that evolve throughout. SO impressed given the age of this wine (check out the integrity of that cork!), which proves again what a fantastic job Dick Arrowood did at his namesake winery in Sonoma. — 7 years ago

2001: Not many of these bottles in circulation. Deep golden color. Poured out like oil in the glass. No way to state the grams per liter of sugar, but as rich as Philippe Foreau's Goutte d'Or Vouvray. Long fish. The word around the table was that it was picked at 42° brix. Yum. Soft tannins. Vanilla hints. — 9 years ago
V12. Slight toasty bouquet. Nice stone fruit and apricot fruit, round toasty finish. Really well balanced and good! — 9 years ago
Earth, dark fruit! Perfect with a ribeye — 9 years ago
Just faintly hot in the nose, and then I look at the alcohol and whoa! 15.5%! Hints of anis and camphor, somewhat one-dimensional fruit and very soft tannins. Enjoyable, especially since I only paid about $4.50 a bottle for it!! Only suckers pay retail! — 9 years ago

Smells just like it looks in the bottle... strawberry fruit punch with a slight hint of vanilla. Smooth on the palette. Easy spring drinker. — 7 years ago
Camomile and buckets of lavender, honey syrup, peaches and apricot jam. Upfront this is thick and sweet, but finishes with a great vein of acidity. Delicious, but this effort leaves a little to be desired. — 8 years ago
From a 3 litre. Glad it held up from less than ideal storage — 8 years ago
So delicious. One of the fruitier Malbecs I've ever tasted. It's very smooth and tastes like buttered toast with cherry jam. It's a great cocktail wine — 9 years ago
Crazy strong. Fruit flavors and very in your face. — 9 years ago
