Just finished a Catena wine dinner and decided to pull this from the cellar to see how it compared. Not surprisingly, this is a totally different creature as compared to the younger Argentinian malbecs we just had, but this is very, very good. The nose strikes me more like a younger cabernet, not a 20-year-old malbec. Nice fruit up front with some leather and sour cherry notes on the edge. The tannins have fallen away considerably, but there's still enough of an acidic backbone to keep the wine alive through the mid-palate. The finish thins out a bit but has some nice layers of flavor that evolve throughout. SO impressed given the age of this wine (check out the integrity of that cork!), which proves again what a fantastic job Dick Arrowood did at his namesake winery in Sonoma.
