This was good. It needs some time to open up and breathe for the full flavor to bloom. Once those sophisticated notes of berry, basil, and leather begin to tingle, I am reminded that Q3 taxes are overdue and the basement still needs formal radon testing. This wine is a medium-dark purple in the glass. Aromas of brambly cherry are adorned with anise, leather, pepper and clove notes. On the palate there is red fruit and oak spice with a savory coffee angle. The tannins are firm and the acidity is fresh. A lengthy finish leaves the savory aspect strongest. The name of the estate comes from "Ca' Pazzo", shown on ancient maps. Estate covers an area of 190 hectares, 54 which are vineyards, 4 are olive groves, 87 which are wooded and 45 are planted with new vines. Deep Ruby with a berry fruit aromas blossom and smoke, aged for 2 years on oak. On the palate cherry & strawberry flavors, with leather, cacao and tobacco notes. When I was at winery I was told an unknown quantity of Petite Sirah and Carignane were added. Deep Ruby with aromas of jammy berry fruits and sweet spice. On the palate flavors of cherry and blackberry fruit with creamy oak, vanilla and currant tones. Well integrated on fine tannins, long finish ending with fruit and mineral character. Very nice!
