"La Riotte" Morey St. Denis 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2014

Stunning. The real deal with concentration and acidity. Not amped into Napa cab. The best wine I have had in months. — 5 years ago

Hartford Court

Three Jacks Vineyard Chardonnay 2016

It’s a very rich style chardonnay, but it’s unapologetically delicious. Professional scores have it as high as 97 and the purity of fruit along with the deft use of french oak and balanced acidity are certainly deserving. It strikes a nice balance even with everything amped up and an alcohol level of 14.6%. Only 326 cases made, if you see a bottle in the wild drink it! — 6 years ago

@davidl Still trying to work through the lineup to get a feel for how the style plays with the really diverse vineyard lineup they have.

Watch Hill Vineyard Syrah 2016

Delectable Wine
9.4

The 2016 Syrah Watch Hill Vineyard is dense, powerful and super-concentrated. Inky blue/purplish fruit, lavender, menthol, licorice and spice notes are all amped up in this rich, beautifully resonant Syrah. Dollops of Viognier add brightness and floral top notes, but the Watch Hill remains a pretty big, yet nuanced, wine. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, September 2018) — 7 years ago

Vine Hill Vineyard Chardonnay

Clearly california, but definitely makes an attempt at balance. The fruit is amped up and has solid acidity. Has a nice creaminess to it (malo?). Something for everyone here. — 8 years ago

Booker Red Syrah Mourvèdre Grenache Blend 2013

Not for everyone with its amped up style, but if you appreciate the Paso big boys it's delicious. A true GSM and a true Californian at 16.2% but hiding it surprisingly well. Extremely fruit forward, but decent acidity and very fine tannins to carry it through. Punched through prime T-bones with ease. — 8 years ago

Serralunga Barolo Nebbiolo 2009

In a great place. Definitely a touch amped up, but the nebbiolo comes through no question. Touch of secondary fruit starting to come through, lots of great acid, long finish, very nice. — 5 years ago

Boffo Brown Ale

Good reco by the shop. Rich, malty, roasty, nutty, hearty. Slightly sweet. Expected a little more body with such bold flavours and tapers off a little quicker than I'd like in the finish. Solid brew, but could be amped up. — 6 years ago

Limestone Ridge at Vista Verde Vineyard Chenin Blanc 2016

Superb amped up expression of chenin in chameleon mode, hiding between waves of acid and mineral. Probably prefer to WS chardonnays most days of the week if I’m honest. — 6 years ago

Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León Tempranillo Blend 2010

John J
9.1

Nose a bit funky like black olive, the syrah component to this wine really amped its complexity. A bit more brooding than full tempranillo crianza offerings, this has integrated notes of cedar and ripe red fruits, and that touch of earthy, savory, lightly pungent syrah in support.

Good complement to garlic toast, roasted peppers and grilled salchiccons.

Sonoma Coast Chardonnay

First of the '15. Even more structure than other recent vintages. The same beautiful fruit, but now with amped up acidity. These were always balanced, but this '15 takes it to another level. These will hold for several years. — 8 years ago

Domaine François Raveneau

Butteaux Chablis 1er Cru Chardonnay 2005

So dope. Almost too much of a good thing with that extra Raveneau oomph. And 05. Would add a touch of acid if I had a magic wand. But a stunning wine. Was crazy shy on first pour and then quickly became white flower paradise, beeswax and saline for days. Highly amped. Indulgent. — 9 years ago

Beauroy Chablis 1er Cru Chardonnay 2018

Very nice premier cru chablis. Nothing especially pokes out - this is more like a textbook chablis that is just amped to another level. Great mouthfeel, stony acid finish, length, precision. — 5 years ago

Pear Valley

Distraction Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2015

All 5 BDX Varietals led by CS and Merlot in a typical bombastic Paso style. The fruit is amped up, acid is fairly low and tannins are medium. I do appreciate that in a hot weather wine they kept the alcohol fairly in check at 14.4% — 6 years ago

Lewis MacGregor Estate Vineyard Chardonnay 2014

If there is a notion that Cali wines are amped up old world wines, this one shows that off in the best possible away. Abundant acid, fruit and mineral all in balance. I’d order it again for sure — 8 years ago

L'Humeur du Temps Chablis Chardonnay 2015

Really awesome Chablis. In a richer style, which is further amped up by the warm vintage, yet still has that bracing, sea-spray Chablis-ness to satisfy the itch for racy salinity that you want a good Chablis to be able to scratch. Pours a bright medium (-) gold hue. High concentration of aromatics of slightly bruised green apple, lemon curd, saline sea spray, wet stone and crushed oyster shell, dogwood floral notes, fresh brioche dough and aged cheese rind leesiness, crème fraîche, and a slight fennel spice. On the palate, there's more perfectly ripe green apple, lemon curd, saline oyster shell and wet stone minerality, aged cheese rind, and crème fraîche. High acid, bone dry, medium (-) body but with a rich oily texture. Moderate, in-balance alcohol. Great length on the palate. Wonderful complexity. Would take well to a short-to-medium term cellaring but is honestly so delicious and generous now, too. Definitely want to seek out more Chablis from the De Moors. — 8 years ago
