Caravina Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

Beautiful, dark red, perfume fruits. Black currants, blackberries, dark cherries, black plum, black raspberries, boysenberries, lots of blue fruits, expresso, anise, leather, some graphite, sweet dark moist soils, medium intensity volcanic minerals, limestone with blue and dark red floral bouquet.

The body is full. The tannins are round and nicely soften. The structure, length, tension and balance have hit harmony with plenty of life left ahead. Dark currants, blackberries, dark cherries, black plum, black raspberries, boysenberries, loads of blue fruits, expresso roast, anise, dark chocolate, a little caramel, leather, some graphite, leather, dry tobacco, touch of dry herbs, sweet dark moist soils, medium intensity volcanic minerals, limestone and blue and dark red floral bouquet. The acidity is round and beautiful. The finish is long, very well balanced, elegant, polished and lasts minutes.

Photos of; The barn used for winemaking and to host tastings. The first harvested Cabernet grapes of the season, an old school basket press that decorates their grounds, Estate vines and a giant fan to dry the vines if needed amongst the hilltop mountains that surround the Estate.

Rocks! More fruity and less savage than the '14.... in a good clean way... but still with a touch of "barn" to remind you where you are. — 8 years ago

Ricci Vineyard Pinot Noir 2012

Translucent light ruby color with earthy red fruit and savory spice aromas. On the palate it's fresh, focused and harmonious with a silky texture and cherry, dried strawberry, pomegranate, cola and spice flavors. Long delicious savory finish. — 8 years ago

Very deep purple color with ruby hues. On the nose: a bit of minerals, dark red fruit jam and pepper. Taste: medium tannins, a bit dry with hints of dried black cherries, plum and cracked black pepper. Good value. — 8 years ago

Napanook Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 1991

There have only been 3 wines that made me a little teary eyed and I am proud to add this one to the list. On the nose it’s like you’re stuck in a Cuban cigar box, bing cherry, freshly tanned leather, tobacco. Red currant, ripe cherry, this wine sneaks up on you and then boooooooom you time travel to an old barn, smokiness, wet hay, dark chocolate finish. The tannins could not be better. A quick tartness then a very mellow finish. The finish lasts for 5+ minutes. I honestly don’t know how to give this wine its proper recognition. Such an amazing piece of Napa history. I am so honored to have shared this with @Arden Barnett. What a bottle. The first thing I noticed off this wine was the color. The 1991 had an amazing rim of light brown, bleeding into a dark ruby in the center. Clearly cellared and cared for properly. The nose hit me with a light milk chocolate covered cherry then a full scent of cigar box, black licorice and leather. The wines finesse on the palate was even more impressive. BlackBerry, overripe cherry and red currant overwhelmed my senses and the tannic structure could not have been more perfect. Unbelievable wine with great company. Thank you @Arden Barnett for opening this up.

The Lost Abbey Red Barn Ale

The menu listed Inferno but Red Barn was all they had. A good saison - nice crispness with a hint of ginger and white flowers - but WAY too cold. Will probably improve as it warms up...but I'm thirsty. — 8 years ago

Château Pichon-Longueville Baron

Baron de Pichon-Longueville Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2005

2 hour decant (minimal fine sediment). The much hyped 2005 vintage!.....A dazzling dark purple/ruby red. On the nose: black fruit, forest floor, cedar, and the start of some barn yard funk. Taste: blackberry, currents, graphite, tar...tannins still there, but starting to sweeten with a long brooding finish. If you like em young and have some bottles, open one and keep the others for the next 20 years (we will pop another in 4 years). — 6 years ago

Two Creeks Vineyards Pinot Noir 2012

I recently had a 2015, thought it needed more time so I searched for an older vintage and found a 2012, their debut vintage of Two Creeks Pinot Noir. A blend from 2 different Vineyards (43% Apple Barn & 57% Annahala) and aged for 10 months in French oak (38% new). Aromas red and dark berry fruits with complex, soft earthy spice notes. On the palate juicy cherry and strawberry flavors, rich and complex with a great mouthfeel, integrated spice and oak. Smooth tannins with good balance with acidity on a lingering finish, an outstanding wine that I would have to say is perfect now! — 8 years ago
