Yum! As usual, superb. Saliva-inducing red. Sarsaparilla, cardamon, earth, rhubarb, juicy red berries, olives, brine. My only issue with this wine is that it won't last till day three - overnight and you can start tasting the "beany" element.

Pretty & bright. Needs some air, but opens quickly. Has a spicy character through the nose and palate with tart cherries & cooler blue fruit on the back end. Mild tannins & tons of acid here. Great stuff.

Mar 13th, 2020Popped, tasted, then back in the fridge it went, and by golly did it shine the next day! Notes mirrored the first time I had this - red fruits, floral, herbal, but now with heaps of briny elements. The brininess and acidity on the palate was so mouth-watering. Kept me going back for more and before I knew it, there was none left. Breaking my own rule for wine (i.e. meant to be shared) has never felt so good. Darn you, Metras!
My only issue with this bottle is that it felt a little more "natty" than the first, which could be a product of the extra air. If you look back at my previous notes, it's already got a pretty feral element, but this had a sort of "beany" savoury finish that I see a lot in natural wines. Still, it doesn't dominate.
NB: According to Wineanorak, this comes from a parcel in Fleurie that was taken out of the cru classification because it was too high up (500m). What?! 😅

Holy smokes! Metras totally nailed this 17' Beaujolais. Benefits heaps with aeration. Aromatically charges at you - floral, red cherries, spicy, herbal, crushed rocks, and a real wild element that smacks you in the face. The palate was fresh, crunchy, juicy. Intense red fruits, leafy herbs, earthy, some prevailing reductive notes. Long and focused finish. Chalky tannins that gives the wine some real weight, but at the same time, totally ethereal. Would be perfect if it had more mineral notes in the palate, but what a wine this was! Full to nil in no time at all. As my German friends would put it - a red wine kabinett!
