Pora is one of 9 specific vineyards marketed as a Riserva after 4 years by the Produttori. We visited there several years ago and had a tasting of several of the distinct Cuvées. Rabaja and Asili would be 2 of the better known of these Cuvées. The Produttori is a great example of a cooperative working well for all the growers in the district. This 2005 Pora was medium Ruby in colour - transparent in spots. Aromas of earth dried rose petals and a touch of Tar and Tannin. Yes you can almost smell the Tannins! The light colour belies the power of this wine even at 14 years. On the palate sour cherries light tarry notes and masses of fine powdery Tannins - persistent and long. This wine demands food and it went well with Lamb Chops. If I had another of these I would leave it for at least another 5 years. Loved it.

Seems to be in a closed phase or the warm vintage may have gotten the better of them. The nose was calm with nothing really showing except some ripe red and blue fruit. On the palate the ripe fruit was confirmed moving more towards the #newworld in style. the structure was faded. Decent length. #produttoridelbarbaresco #babaresco #nebbiolo #piedmont #italy #ctbucklinwine

Had all the elements that tells you it’s a neb just missing the aromatics. Tannins and acid gave a big one two punch that knocked everything else out.

What can I say - almost at its peak. Powdery tannins, leather, rose pedals, licorice, cigar box, touch mint can go for another 5-10 years plenty of tannins left. Very classic. I should have bought so much more. One of the best Nebbiolo’s ’ I had in a long time.

Sweet plum, dark cherry, dried roses, leather. High tannin, high acidity. Great showing.
