Smells sweet, soy sauce, caramel, and eucalyptus. On the palate it is one-dimensional and dark fruits.

Formed in 1979 by Peter Lehmann to assist the grape growers who at the time were facing financial ruin, now over 160 grape growers supply Lehmann from over 900 vineyards throughout Barossa. Dark red with ripe berry fruit aromas and a jolt of sweet spices. On the palate ripe blackberry and cherry fruit with cacao, espresso and vanilla flavors. Grippy tannins, approachable, medium length ending with rustic character.

Jan 11th, 2019Big, boozy, and an attack of ripe fruit. Classic Barossa, but I'm hoping that producers move away from this classic style.

Feb 12th, 2018Clear deep ruby in color. On the nose, it's clean with pronounced primary and secondary aromas of charred wood, black pepper, and black currant. On the palate, it's dry, with high acidity, high tannins, high alcohol, full body, and pronounced primary and secondary flavors of eucalyptus, plum, leather, black cardamom, and tabacco smoke with a medium finish. This wine is complex, but a little lacking in fruit to balance the tannins. I'm hoping it opens up with time in the glass. Overall, I would rate this wine as good. It may be past its prime. After decanting and leaving it in the fridge for 3 days, it has opened up and is showing more fruit. The tannins have also calmed down. I'm bumping it up a few more points.
