Tony and his wife Herta purchased 30 acres of land in the Napa Valley with the magic ingredient - location. With 1% Malbec added, Aromas of dark berry fruit and woodsy spice. On the palate cherry and ripe raspberry flavors with cacao, oak and herb pepper notes. Firm tannins ready to age, nice acidity, good balance on lingering finish.

For National Drink Wine Day, I opened this beautiful Napa Valley Merlot.

Dark inky in color with a very thin purple rim.

Nice fruity nose of black currants, blackberries, cherries, vanilla, cedar, chocolates, light green pepper, bitter vegetables, earth, dust, tobacco, licorice, peppercorn and spices.

Full bodied, big and bold, with high acidity and nice long legs.

Dry and fruity on the palate with blackberries, black currants, sweet plums, green pepper, earth, vanilla, licorice, earth, spices, peppercorn, leather, smoke chocolates and mocha.

Long finish with green, angular tannins and black pepper.

A very young Napa Merlot that needs 3 to 7 years to mature. Enormous tannins that will not match everyone's palate.

Still unbalanced, but I liked it with a plate of hard cheeses.

Needs 90 minutes in a decanter to open up properly.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

Drinks like a Cab. One of the few Merlots I like. Deep, dark, rich fruit, blackberries, plum, chewy. Delicious!!!

Ripping tannins that could trade punches with a young reserve Barolo. Vibrant red fruit and generous weight on the palate. Pair with big steaks or a long time in the cellar

Classic ruby red. Aromas of dried tobacco, juicy raspberries, plums, and mocha. As it opens up it gains a dusty presence and licorice. In the mouth it's full bodied with firm tannin and low acidity. There's flavors of raspberries, bitter dark chocolate, and powdered cinnamon. It finishes with plum skin, bitter dark chocolate and lots of heat. As it stands right now (late 2026) I give it a 3 for $38 but it has great potential with more bottle aging.
