Kept going on and on during dinner about ‘Merlot from il Maestro’. 1 glass and a deep internet dive later, realized its single vineyard corvina blend named for a hill behind the estate 😭. Plums, spice and a little pepper running through it. Had with Loafers pizza. Delicious with the roast mushroom and pickled shallot.

Feb 20th, 20212012. 9.2-9.3. Excellent Amarone blend as usual from the master, but I prefer the 2011: I find this one still drinking young and lacking the full-throttle richness and complexity of the 2011. Distinct aroma of raisins, with slightly more prune than dark cherry fruit. Definitely more potential ahead. $80 at Bottle King.

Dec 26th, 2020An absolutely brilliant 7-Grape (Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, Cabernet Sauvignon, Nebbiolo, Cristina and Sangiovese) Blend from The Veneto. Half of the grapes are pressed right at harvest and the other half are dried for two months. Aromas and flavors of plums, dark cherry, tobacco and dark chocolate. Relatively light bodied but extremely powerful. Aged in Slovenian oak. Beautifully integrated and balanced with extremely soft tannins. 15% Alcohol, but you do not notice it. (This one will sneak up on you if you let it!)
