I'm a big Côte-Rôtie fan but this particular bottle is not what I look for in a good C-R. I'm after the more refined and lighter end of the spectrum.

Still displaying the youth and vitality of a much younger wine, its black fruit appearance is dark and dense, the confirming perfumed aromatics and dark fruit flavors are still quite primary, and its structure is solid with ample fruit, light acidity, and supporting, chalky tannins at the long mouth coating finish. Definitely in its Golden Years. (Should be ideal with tonight’s Soy marinated Rack of Lsmb.)

As always Guigal delivers

Dark burgundy in color, smell of white pepper, anise, and red fruits, medium to full body, fine silky tannin, with hint of mint, strawberry, and spice with a medium to long finish with a sweet, honey like after taste.

One dimensional. Strong iron ore taste.

Another great showing from this “humble” wine. Amazing guigal can make such good wine on a massive scale
