Impressions after initial decant were aromas of strawberry and other red fruits which is unusual for an aged Red Burgundy. This fruity note blew off after an hour. Some stalkiness and spiciness on palate. Barb said aromas of root vegetables like turnip. Light to medium weight which I have come to expect from Volnay particularly in an average vintage like 2004. This is the Clos des Chenes. Would love to try from a better year.
