The rare chenin from chinon! Delicious! Perfumed, bright mineral, tart green apple, sweet stone fruit. Clean and bright, yet powerful and persistent.

To the surprise of pretty much no one this bottling, despite the fact that it's entry level, doesn't appear to be madeion anything approximating an "approachable" style. It's clearly a good wine, and probably drinks really well after a few years, but I'm finding it in a sort of awkward place right now. Five days in the fridge with a taste every day and only on the last does it start to give up any apple or even mildly oxidative notes. Very austere on the nose and palate throughout. I don't know, but would guess that this is the same fruit from the Croix Boissee that goes into the sv bottling, and appears to be made for the long haul all the same. Others seem to have had a different experience so perhaps there's considerable bottle variation. Purchased directly from Kermit Lynch in Berkeley.
