Another experiment. Opened this on Tuesday and decanted for at least 4 hours. While the nose was powerful sweet fruit, the wine seemed mostly acidic and tannic. So, I poured it back in the bottle and corked it until Friday and tried some then and on Saturday. In that time it had fleshed out and was amazingly complex. This is not typical modern Zin as it’s under 14% abv. Really good stuff but clearly needs to sleep or be given a major decant.

Nice ripe bright fruit…lost a bit of weight since last tasted. Dark berry fruit, hint of alcohol, bit of bitter tannin.

Jun 11th, 2023Okay… Ridge 2018 Ridge Ponzo and 2019 Dirty and Rowdy Sonoma Valley Zin side-by-side ….. surprisingly unfair comparison…. Ridge is really nice… but the D&R turns the amp up to 12!! Light-bodied, but rich, round, totally unctuous complexity that doesn’t need Identifiable American Oak. Oily, viscous texture totally coats the palate and turns around to double dog dare you to follow at your own peril. This shit rocks!!!

Typical Dirty and Rowdy wizardry. Beautiful perfumed floral nose. Red fruit forward, a spice component that I was mesmerized by... not heavy by any means but a light little spritz that just adds to the funky greatness of this bottle. Can they do any wrong?

This is the 2019 Sonoma Valley Zinfandel. Ever since the 2011 Santa Barbara Highlands Mourvèdre I have been waiting to see what Hardy would do with Zin when he had the time (and the grapes) to put his mind to it. I’m happy to say this is a good old fashioned zin, brambly but not too heavy, and a super food wine. Last week we cracked this bottle with pizza, and it was a bit overwhelming, tonight with boeuf aux carottes, same bottle, it really hit the spot. Please sir may I have some more?

@Delectable this is Zinfandel. After 4 hrs of air, extremely perfumed and floral, crunchy red fruits, spice, funk. This is about the brightest, lightest, most red-fruited zin I’ve ever had ⚡️😍
