The 2012 Montrose has a taut and focused bouquet with crisp blackberry, tobacco and light earthy scents on the nose. Fine vigour and class evident here. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannins on the entry, fine acidity, lightly spiced with a nicely proportioned and focused finish. This is a solid, almost swarthy Montrose, though it is surpassed by more recent vintages. Tasted twice at Bordeaux Index's Ten Year-On tasting and blind at the Southwold Ten-Year On tasting. (Neal Martin, Vinous, September 2022)

Tonight I have the pleasure of tasting the 2012 Château Montrose Saint-Estèphe. 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot.

The nose has beautiful aromas of black currant, black cherry, blackberry, rose's, mushroom, pencil shavings, herbs, eucalyptus and mocha.

A very expressive palate of black currant, blackberry, black cherry, cassis, black pepper and green bell pepper.

This wine is full bodied with a silky smooth mouth feel, medium + acidity and medium + mouth coating tannins that extend out to a long clean dark fruit finish. A captivating wine to say the least and just another example of a left bank Bordeaux done right from Château Montrose. Enjoy your weekend and may your December be very eventful. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

A baby but a nice baby, this one needs a firm shake in the decanter and some time in the glass, but it delivers!

We wanted to give a Montrose a try before the 10 year mark. No disappointments here ! Very dark blackish rubi robe, very reticent nose with hints of violets, a full bodied mouth with very silky tannins and very long finish. Decant 2 to 3 hours in advance now or give it another 5 to 7 years. Great wine that always punches above its ranking (in spite highly ranked!) and enthusiastically recommended.

15 Vintages of Montrose dinner. Herve Bertrand flew in from the Chateau for this dinner and all wines came directly from the Chateau cellar except the 1989. A phenomenal dinner with some great back stories about the various vintages by Mr. Bertrand. Served in 5 flights: '12, '08, '95 / '10, '09, '03 / '05, '90, '89, '76, / '00, '86, '85 / '98, '82, and ''70. Food and service at Ripple was off the charts good. If you enjoy Bordeaux from the Medoc, St. Estephe then Chateau Montrose deserves a spot on your cellar.
