Tastes as good as a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. — 6 years ago
My last of 3 rosés from Ron Yates winery (Cinsault, Grenache, Sangiovese). Another really nice TX rosé that I think is probably one of my favorites I’ve had from TX.
This and the Cinsault are tied in score for me, both being quite enjoyable. The Cinsault was a bit more “soft” and fleshy fruit skin driven. This Sangiovese is more full fruit on nose and palate. Lots of strawberry...strawberry cream, strawberry pie (I pick up even a note of crust/yeast) and peach skin. Really nice acidity (probably a tad less than the Grenache). Sweet nectar and agave. Stone fruit. Had the most “going on” than the others. Another nice one, @Ron Yates . — 6 years ago
Continuing my way through some unique TX wines from Ron Yates Winery and Spicewood Winery.
@Delectable Wine : This is the Ron Yates Petulant Natural Sparkling Rosé wine. It was not in the database.
This is my first PetNat wine and this is a head scratcher! Ron advised me to let this get cold for a few days upright to allow the sediment to fall, then carefully and slowly pour/decant. Sealed under bottle-cap, this fizzed only a little bit upon opening. Murky and muddled at first, once it settled in the glass, grapefruit rind and clay covered strawberries. Incredibly fine bubbles. The finish was very crisp, and a bit more strawberries and raspberries came out the longer it was open.
What an absolute treat to try! Many thanks @Ron Yates on helping craft this wine...incredibly cool that TX is making these! — 6 years ago
@Ron Yates well done sir.
Super rich-wet stone and brioche with a spiced pear finish. — 7 years ago
Very impressed! @Ron Yates wish you were here for this. — 7 years ago
15.1% ABV.
@Delectable Wine This is a Wine Club exclusive called “Sisters”.
From such a structured Napa vintage and deriving from Mount Veeder I was expecting (and hoping for) more supporting tannins and backbone.
Too “smooth” for my liking it almost comes across as having some residual sugar?
Should find plenty of fans in the Big & Bold camp. — 5 years ago
First Zin I remember enjoying. Fruity and a slightly spicy finish. — 6 years ago
National Rosé day, so might as well enjoy the blistering TX heat with a TX rosé from @Ron Yates !
@Delectable Wine : This is the Ron Yates Grenache rosé, not the Sangiovese.
Similar in color to the RY Cinsault rosé. Smells of rhubarb tart, red and orange fruit skins, and an herbal spice which I find typical of Grenache rosés. Nice acidity, more so than the Cinsault. Floral on the palate with bing cherry & cantaloupe. — 6 years ago
Brief tasting notes from the annual Fort Worth Food & Wine Festival. Whites knocked it out of the park this year.
Nice surprise running in to @Ron Yates at the festival tonight! @Shawn R , we spoke about you!
A very unique blend...Tempranillo, graciano, merlot, Cabernet. Nose is very fruit focused with bing cherry and blackberries, but the palate is quite Bordeaux like. Picked up some herbal nuances, leather, and lighter than I expected. I’ve heard Ron makes great wine so this was my first intro...looking forward to trying more! — 6 years ago
What a lovely wine this is! I highly recommend you try it if you can find it. Their total production is only 700 cases. — 7 years ago
I had the ‘16 vintage of this a few months back in comparison to the Ron Yates SB. I thought the ‘16 was nice, but that the Ron Yates SB was better in every aspect. @Ron Yates told me, in his opinion, the ‘17 Spicewood was better than both the ‘16 Spicewood and the Ron Yates ‘16.
It’s 103 here in TX, and I’m sweating more than this bottle, so it’s prime SB weather.
I’m happy to report that I think I’m aligned with Ron here. In comparison to the Spicewood ‘16, the aromatics on this just jump out of the glass with tons of fruit. Kiwi, lychee, and peach...wow! Great nose. Sharp acidity highlighted by honeyed grapefruit, limestone and chalk. Well done, Ron! — 6 years ago
My journey with TX wines continues...
YES! This is a killer effort of a Spanish varietal that is doing great here in TX! Many Spanish reds do well here, so I shouldn’t be surprised in regards to white varietals. I was skeptical at first as it was too cold...seemed like a run of the mill SauvBlanc, but this was wonderful once it warmed closer to room temp. Nose had a lot of melon, watermelon rind, honeydew, white flowers. Really nice texture from start to finish. Palate has more melon fruits, even some banana, and honeyed walnuts. Nice acidity...crisp, but not sharp. One of the best TX whites I’ve had. Very nicely done @Ron Yates ! Looks like @Shawn R and I scored this the same! — 6 years ago
One word - awesome! — 7 years ago
