Whispering Pines Winery

Mathilde et Yves Gangloff

La Barbarine Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2013

What a wine! Hauntingly aromatic. Lots of red and black fruits, sweet almost, violets, roses, pines, herbs, spice. The palate's super concentrated (fruit), licorice, meat, kinda stemmy, hints of (pleasant) greeness. The brett really adds to complexity here. Overall a finely balanced wine that tingles the senses. Would be great to revisit it in a couple of years.

Update: Decanted overnight. Brett was very prominent on the nose. Hmmm. Palate showing more meatiness, cured meat almost.

Arterberry Maresh

Dundee Hills Pinot Noir 2013

Bright red cherries, bits of earth. Pines in the breeze on the nose. Great wine with just enough of everything needed to be even more elegant and intriguing in a few more years from now. Thank god Jim Maresh's wines are not too well known around here...more for me. — 11 years ago
